The Office of Academic Integrity & Student Conduct is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that handles matters concerning academic integrity and student conduct (i.e., alleged violations of University Policies and/or campus regulations regarding the activity of students and alleged violations of academic misconduct). This is the only office on campus that deals with academic integrity and student conduct matters for the whole campus and enforces the Policies Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations and Students (PACAOS), established by the Regents of the University of California. The Office of Academic Integrity & Student Conduct administers the student conduct process on campus in a manner that encourages student development and provides conflict resolution that is respectful of all parties through the consistent and objective application of campus and University policy. Through this process, the Office of Academic Integrity & Student Conduct decides on sanctions that may irrevocably alter the lives of students and has the potential to lead to high profile lawsuits, audits, and investigations.

Your Role on the Team

Manages a discrete Student Affairs or Student Life & Development function and / or program. Formulates policies and procedures for the function. Develops the long and short term organizational goals of the unit. Represents the program internally and externally. Manages the operating budget and human resources of the program.

The Director oversees the management and direction of the Office of Academic Integrity & Student Conduct (OAISC). The responsibilities of the Director include: supervising staff; implementing systems and solutions to resolve ongoing case management issues; providing consultation to academic units regarding disruptive and/or distressed students; and serving as the campus main point of contact for all student disciplinary issues. OAISC is solely responsible for imposing campus-wide disciplinary action for academic misconduct and student behavior, including suspension and dismissal from the university. The Director supports campus stakeholders with crisis mitigation and works closely with students in distress.

The Director serves as a key system administrator handling access rights to student disciplinary files in accordance with the Family Educational Right and Privacy Act. The Director serves as a core member of the University's Consultation Team for campus behavioral intervention, and the Case Management Team for addressing all forms of sexual violence, dating and domestic violence, and stalking. The Director is responsible for ensuring campus compliance with local and federal laws such as FERPA, Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Title IX of the Higher Education Act, Drug-Free Schools Act, and the Jeanne Clery Act. The position is given the latitude to assess and analyze student conduct trends and develop strategies to address those issues.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

• Strong knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Demonstrated skill in crisis management, harm reduction, conflict resolution, and conflict mediation.
• Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
• Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
• Ability in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership, and intercultural competence.
• Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization. Knowledge of current trends and issues concerning student conduct, academic integrity, and Title IX in higher education settings.
• Experience working effectively with diverse student populations and communities. Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, social justice, and equity.
• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written communications
• Skill in training staff regarding compliance, neutrality, maintaining student rights, and ethical decision-making.
• Ability to work effectively with little direct supervision. Ability to consistently make sound, ethical, and timely decisions.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and mandates including FERPA, Digital Millennium Copyright Act, American Disabilities Act, Title IX of the Higher Education Act, Drug-Free Schools Act, and the Jeanne Clery Act.
• Experience investigating, adjudicating, and resolving student conduct or related cases Experience overseeing multiple complex cases simultaneously.
• Experience addressing concerns/incidents of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking.
• Skill in research, data collection, and analysis. Experience tracking and reporting data related to student conduct trends.
• Progressively responsible experience in staff supervision. Skill managing priorities, tasks, work flow, and deadlines for a team.
• Ability to create and maintain strong campus partnerships.
• Ability to balance the role of administrator while maintaining student rights.
• Ability to provide consultations regarding campus policies, and addressing disruptive/challenging behavior.
• Experience developing proactive educational programs regarding student conduct/academic integrity.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• Master's degree/JD with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in student conduct or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Preferred:

• Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
• Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
• Knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.
• Specific knowledge of UC systemwide Policies Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations, and Students (PACAOS)
• Experience developing/implementing mediation and/or restorative justice dispute resolution programs.
• Advanced degree in related area preferred.

Special Conditions:

• Occasional evenings or weekends required.
• Position is 100% remote, and subject to all University rules and regulations for remote work.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $88,000- $130,000 (Annual).
