About Us

Founded in 1897, San Diego State University is a public institution of higher education located in southern California. SDSU is the oldest and largest university in San Diego and the third largest in the state.

  • The San Diego Trolley is an affordable way to get from SDSU to all of the hot spots around San Diego, including Qualcomm Stadium, Fashion Valley mall, and Old Town San Diego.
  • Viejas Arena is one of the premiere collegiate arenas in the nation: home to Aztec Basketball and host to entertainers such as Rihanna, Gwen Stefani, Bon Jovi, Maroon 5 and Jennifer Lopez.
  • One in seven adults in San Diego who holds a college degree attended SDSU. This alumni connection provides students with internships and career opportunities after graduation.
  •  KPBS, San Diego's public television and radio station, is owned and operated by SDSU. The station is rated among the top 10 public broadcasting stations in the country.

Awards

San Diego State University continues to gain recognition as a leader in higher education. It is currently ranked in the top 150 national universities and in the top 80 public universities, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual ranking of America's Best Colleges.

SDSU's international business undergraduate program is ranked No. 10 in the nation and several graduate programs are standouts in their fields, according to U.S. News and World Report. They include rehabilitation counseling (No. 9), speech language pathology (No. 25), clinical psychology (No. 26), audiology (No. 27), nursing midwifery (No. 29) and public health (No. 30).

SDSU is a hub of student invention and innovation, led by the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center and the Zahn Innovation Center. FORBES magazine ranked SDSU No. 23 on its list of America's Most Entrepreneurial Universities.

SDSU's diverse campus includes more than 750 students enrolled in the Susan and Steven Weber Honors College and a growing number of Merit Scholars—students with a minimum high school GPA of 4.0 and SAT scores of at least 1400.

  • SDSU ranks No. 13 in the nation for bachelor’s degrees awarded to minorities, according to the June 2011 issue of Diverse Issues in Higher Education, which listed the top 100 colleges and universities for minorities.
  • SDSU also ranked No. 49 nationwide for master’s degrees awarded to minorities.
  • SDSU is No. 13 in the nation and No. 13 in California for bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanics, according to Diverse Issues in Higher Education 2013
