UCI is a multicultural community of people from diverse backgrounds. We are enriched by our mutual respect for one another, and we strive to learn from our differences in an atmosphere of positive engagement. Universities exist to provide the conditions for hard thought and difficult debate so that individuals can develop the capacity for independent judgment. For that reason, tolerance, civility and respect for diversity of background, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, political beliefs, sexual orientation and physical abilities are crucially important for our campus community to thrive.
UCI is committed to excellence through diversity and to the goal of reflecting diversity in our faculty, student and staff populations, as well as our teaching, research and public service endeavors. Programs and services offered at UCI that promote inclusion and diversity include but are not limited to:
Office of Inclusive Excellence
The Office of Inclusive Excellence oversees institutional accountability, mounts education and training programs, conducts responsive research, and builds partnerships with universities and colleges dedicated to inclusive excellence.
Faculty & Staff Diversity Affinity Groups
These groups foster cross-departmental social interaction, professional networking, cultural competencies, recruiting and mentoring. Diversity affinity groups also offer the UCI community at large an opportunity to consult with group members as an information resource.
UCI ADVANCE Program
This program carries out the campus's commitment to gender equity and diversity among faculty through a team of equity advisors who monitor recruitment activities, coordinate advising for career advancement, and counsel faculty regarding equity, including salary.
