Since 1908, Youngstown State University has prepared its graduates to become leaders in the region, the state, and the nation. Located on a beautiful 140-acre award winning Tree Campus USA connecting to downtown Youngstown, Ohio. YSU offers a comprehensive selection of major programs backed by a strong tradition of teaching and scholarship. YSU has a diverse student body of over 12,000 amazing students. Multicultural students make up nearly 18 percent of the student body at the University, and over 600 international students hail from fifty-five countries. Youngstown State University is a comprehensive urban research University that provides associate, baccalaureate, and graduate instruction and continuing education in one location. The University offers a broad curriculum in the School of Graduate Studies and Research, along with five colleges: Williamson College of Business Administration; Beeghly College of Liberal Arts Social Sciences and Education; Cliffe College of Creative Arts; Bitonte College of Health and Human Services; and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Accreditation
YSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. YSU was recognized Forbes TOP Colleges (2015) and the US News and World Report ranks YSU Engineering program in Top 25% (2021). Bachelor's and master's programs in the College of Business Administration are accredited by AACSB International-The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Teacher education programs at the University are accredited by the Ohio Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Bachelor's degree programs in engineering and engineering technology are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Other programs within the colleges are accredited by their respective professional bodies.
Degrees
Youngstown State offers over 115+ undergraduate degrees at the associate and baccalaureate levels, graduate certificate programs, 44 + master's-degree programs, and doctorates in educational leadership, materials science and engineering, and the Doctor of Physical Therapy. YSU is also a consortium member of the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED).
Location
Youngstown is at the center of a metropolitan area of 600,000, located 60 miles from both Pittsburgh and Cleveland and sits midway between New York City and Chicago. The campus is within easy driving or walking distance of restaurants, shopping centers, museums, and parks. A major contributor to the city's cultural and recreational vitality, YSU each year presents hundreds of concerts, exhibits, lectures, performances, and athletic contests. Youngstown offers an outstanding symphony orchestra, three community theaters, a vital arts community, and unlimited recreational options provided by 2,500-acre Mill Creek Park, located a mile from the campus.
Academic Facilities
Maag Library houses more than a half-million books and more than 200,000 government documents and subscribes to more than 3,100 periodicals and scholarly journals. Online research services provide access to all state university libraries in Ohio and a wide range of other information sources. The library's resources are augmented by the Curriculum Resource Center in the College of Education. A Multimedia Center, housed in Maag Library, offers research materials in a variety of formats.
Comprehensive computing facilities, including wireless internet service, are readily available throughout the campus. Scientific laboratories at YSU are fully outfitted with up-to-date instructional and research equipment. Studios and performance halls in the Cliffe College of Creative Arts serve as a cultural center for our campus, the Mahoning Valley and Ohio hosting more than 400 events annually for art exhibits and major theatrical productions. The McDonough Museum of Art is an innovative exhibit space for student and faculty work.
Campus Life
Youngstown State seeks to offer its students a vital living and learning environment with a relatively small, cohesive campus and a wealth of curricular and cocurricular activities. YSU offers attractive contemporary residence halls and a special residential honors facility. There are also privately managed facilities on campus and downtown, all within walking distance of campus. Student activities abound, with more than 200 student organizations, including social sororities and fraternities, and opportunities for participation in theater, performing groups, student publications, intramural and intercollegiate athletics, and student-program planning. Youngstown State University competes in NCAA athletics and fields eleven women's and eight men's intercollegiate Division I teams. Fitness and recreational facilities are free to all YSU students in the new Andrews Recreation and Wellness Center, Beeghly Physical Education Center, and the Stambaugh Sports Complex. Faculty and staff may elect to pay an annual fee for use of these facilities.
The YSU Sokolov Honors College supports over 1200 students in special programs of high impact learning. Students engage in community service, undergraduate research, senior capstone projects, and other types of high impact learning experiences. Support centers for writing, study skills, reading, and mathematics assist students to successfully transition to college. Ancillary services include counseling and mental health services; career advising; and professional academic advising. A wide range of programs are also available in support of students from underrepresented populations, including multicultural, women, and adult students (those older than 25).
Off-Campus Study
YSU offers cooperative/internship education programs in which students participate in both classroom and experiential study via employment in a government, industry, or business setting. Opportunities for international study for academic credit are available in a wide range of majors.
