The first gift to Iowa State was made in 1899 by alumnus and former professor Edgar Stanton, who donated the original 10 bells of the Campanile. Without this first gift, and all the generous gifts since then, Iowa State’s campus would be completely different. The foundation honors this tradition today by finding new ways to move Iowa State University forward – whether through scholarship support, funding leading-edge facilities, creating new opportunities, or recruiting the best faculty.

The Iowa State University Foundation compensation program is designed to attract, retain, and reward high-performing individuals. It ensures that staff members are compensated according to job values and skills which are competitive in the marketplace. The ISU Foundation offers a full range of benefits to meet the needs of a diverse work force. Benefits are available to domestic partners and same-sex partners.
Medical Insurance
Two medical plans are offered, a PPO and an HMO through Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa. The employee and the ISU Foundation share the cost of the plan.
Dental Insurance
A comprehensive dental plan is offered through Delta Dental of Iowa. The plan provides four levels of benefits: preventive and diagnostic, basic restorative, major restorative, and orthodontic. The employee and the ISU Foundation share the cost of the plan.
Retirement Plan
The ISU Foundation's 403(b) Defined Contribution Retirement Plan is through TIAA. All employees are enrolled in the plan the first of the month following employment and are 100 percent vested with the first contribution. You contribute five percent of your annual salary on a pre-tax basis. The ISU Foundation contributes 10 percent of annual salary.
Life Insurance
The ISU Foundation provides life insurance equal to two times your annual earnings.
Optional additional life insurance is available. The employee pays the full cost of the additional coverage.
Dependent life insurance is available in two package options. The employee pays the full cost of the additional coverage.
Long-Term Disability Insurance
Employees are automatically covered following 90 days of employment. The plan covers 60 percent of your monthly compensation, post-tax. The ISU Foundation pays the cost of the disability coverage. Employee pays tax on the premium.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Pre-tax Health Care and Dependent Care spending accounts are available for employees to participate by payroll deduction.
Leave Programs
Full-time employees accrue 16 hours of vacation leave and 12 hours of sick leave each month. Part-time employees accrue both vacation and sick leave at a pro-rated rate.
The ISU Foundation observes ten paid holidays per year.
Tuition Assistance
Tuition assistance provides staff members the opportunity to receive reimbursement for tuition up to three times per year for coursework taken at accredited institutions. Reimbursement may be granted for up to three (3) undergraduate/graduate credit hours each semester. Employees are eligible after one year of service.
Vision Insurance
Employees are offered the opportunity to enroll in vision (hardware/contacts only) insurance through AVESIS. Employees pay the full cost of the coverage.
