This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenure track position with faculty status. This position is responsible for the development, management, interpretation, and promotion of the Sister Mary Joseph Cunningham Library’s general and special collections in both physical and digital formats. The incumbent works closely with our team of librarians to ensure the SMJC Library’s Collection and related services are well understood and communicated to the GCU community, and that they meet the university’s current and future research needs. The incumbent will also work as part of our team of librarians to maintain effective library operations, while providing outstanding reference services and library instruction to our students, faculty, and staff.
Reports to the Director of Library Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collection Development and Liaison Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a strategy for collection reclamation and analysis that takes into account the handling of traditional materials as well as new electronic resources using models such as DDA, ATO, etc.
- Manage vendor relations, contracts, negotiations, and licensed resources under the collection development budget.
- Works with the Director of Library Services and the Outreach and User Engagement Librarian on the long-term vision for the promotion of the general and special collections.
- Work with the librarians to develop policies and procedures for selection and decision-making processes.
- Work with the Acquisitions and Cataloging Generalist and other library assistants as needed to provide collection statistics reports and analyses to the library director and librarians.
- Assists in the training of staff in technical services operations when needed.
- Work as a liaison librarian for designated academic program areas to provide specialized instruction and research assistance to faculty and students and to acquire materials in all formats.
Electronic Resources and Cataloging Responsibilities
- Develop and promote digital collections and projects in support of the library’s collecting strengths and goals.
- Manage electronic resources, including such activities as monitoring the marketplace for new resources, evaluating and recommending new titles, arranging for demonstrations or trial subscriptions for librarian and faculty evaluation, providing training for librarians, and creating LibGuides and research aids in other formats.
- Manage the curation of the Library A-Z Database List.
- Communicate resource changes and updates to the Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian.
- Work with the Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian to ensure EZProxy is up to date, to ensure stable offsite access to our electronic resources.
- Manage digital library technologies and services including but not limited to Article Linking Solutions (Serial Solutions 360 Link and OCLC Content Manager) and ContentDM.
- Perform original and copy cataloging of resources in assorted formats as needed.
Reference and Library Instruction
- Provide reference assistance on a regular schedule, which may include evening and weekend hours at times.
- Participate in the library’s information literacy instruction program, providing library instruction, both online and face-to-face, to first year students as well as students in designated program areas as assigned.
- Participate in the development of policy and procedures as a member of the SMJC Reference Team.
- Provide specialized research assistance to faculty and students in designated areas.
General and Administrative
- Participate in university committee service and Faculty Assembly.
- Engage in professional development and other professional activities as appropriate.
- Participate in library-wide planning, budgeting, reporting and evaluation activities.
- Integrate the core values of respect, integrity, compassion, justice and service into all aspects of interaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Library Services to maintain effective library operations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- An MLS, or other master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or from a program accredited in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA’s Human Resource Development and Recruitment Office. Second masters/advanced degree desirable.
- Strong working knowledge of library collection development budgets required.
- Experience leading collection reclamation and analysis projects in an academic library setting.
- Experience coordinating technical services operational workflows preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of LibGuides, Camtasia, and course management systems required.
- Proficiency in Windows applications and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with HTML, CSS, Java, content management systems, Adobe Creative Suite, and Camtasia preferred.
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with library instruction and reference services.
- Experience in an academic library including reference, collection development, and library instruction preferred.
- Copy cataloging knowledge required. Knowledge of original cataloging preferred.
