Reporting directly to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Occupational Health Specialist is responsible for the health and wellness of Brandeis faculty and staff.
The position is a full-time benefits eligible position.
The primary job duties of the position will include:
Employee Health Management
- Utilizes principles of case management to achieve best outcomes for faculty and staff in a cost-effective manner; acts a confidential liaison between the employee and providers to whom he/she is referred.
- Performing physical examinations as deemed appropriate. Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Evaluating, treating, and managing occupational injuries and illnesses including but not limited to musculoskeletal injuries; chemical, environmental, infectious disease exposures, and blood borne pathogen exposures.
- Performs Fitness for Duty evaluations including those for drug and alcohol use on the job or premises.
- Provides care and appropriate referral for employees who suffer non-work-related injured or illnesses. May collaborate with the employee’s primary care provider (with a written consent), for referral and follow-up as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining the security and confidentiality of protected health and personal information and maintaining appropriate records and databases to ensure organizational compliance with mandated reporting requirements.
COVID-19 Protocols
- Provides COVID counseling to faculty and staff on physical, medical and mental health issues and guiding them toward community resources and/or employee assistance programs.
- Develops and provides supporting guidance and policy recommendations for optimizing post COVID reopening planning and protocols.
- Serves as the point of contact for all faculty and staff health returning to campus post COVID to ensure the health and safety of our employees. Coordinates with the Health Center, Testing team and Human Resources.
- Supports the case contact tracing and reporting working closely with the Testing team, Human Resources, Health Center and with local and state Department of Health resources as needed.
- Serves a point of contact for identifying environmental and administrative controls for infectious control and related workplace safety.
Partnerships and Collaboration
- Support the audits of workplace hazards, equipment, and management protocols.
- Supports the needs associated with implementing emergency and disaster preparedness programs.
- Collaborates with Human Resources, the Student Health Center, COVID Testing team, Campus Operations and other areas as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Masters professional (NP) with either occupational health certification or health and safety certification training and 3-5 years of experience, preferably in higher education.
- Has a current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Satisfactory completion of a formal education program from a NLN or ANA accredited program for Nurse Practitioners.
- Has current certification from a nationally recognized accrediting body approved by the MA Board of Registration in Nursing for Nurse Practitioners: American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
