Job Summary:
The International Student Advisor will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) as determined by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and an Alternate Responsible Office (ARO) as determined by the U.S. Department of State. The Advisor is responsible for advising F & J international students, international scholars, and the campus community on relevant federal immigration regulations and federal agency guidance. Additionally, the Advisor will ensure regulatory compliance on a quarterly basis by reporting and maintaining international student records in the SEVIS system and in the Terra Dotta portal/database. The Advisor will also assist with supportive orientation, co-curricular programs, activities and events for the international community.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Advise F and J students on immigration regulations, maintaining immigration status, university policy and other related issues. The Advisor will also assist with supportive orientation, co-curricular programs, activities and events for the international community.
- Assist in maintaining SEVIS, Terra Dotta and PeopleSoft/SES data bases
- Process immigration requests for J-1, H-1B, E-3, TN, and other employment-based immigration statuses, receive scholar and department appointments, respond to electronic inquiries and other scholar advising tasks.
- Assist in developing & implementing supportive programs including orientation for international students and scholars; assist in the evaluation of all OISS programs & events

- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Information Systems or related field;
- 1-2 years of experience in international education in an educational setting;
- Knowledge of all student visa categories, some scholar visa categories and federal regulations.
- Experience with student and/or scholar programming in a multicultural environment.
- Must be U.S Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident and meet Department of Homeland Security Designated School Official requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field
- 2 years of direct experience with F and J regulations and SEVIS system
- Fluency in a global language other than English
- Experience in designing and delivering large group presentations, workshops and professional meetings.

- Proficient in database management and data analysis
- Demonstrated knowledge of trends in international education
