West Shore Community College (WSCC) is seeking a dynamic individual with distinguished records of Student Services and leadership experience to serve as its next Dean of Student Services. The proper candidate should be able to demonstrate a history of excellent leadership that includes effective interpersonal skills, successful change management, and commitments to the complex role of a community college and student success. Position Summary
The Dean of Student Services provides leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for the Student Services department at West Shore Community College. Department functions include admissions, registration, financial aid, counseling, student life, tutoring, testing, access to student accommodations and resources, and more. By working collaboratively with department members, faculty and academic staff, stakeholders across the campus, and community members and organizations, the Dean ensures the college provides effective and relevant services that meet the needs and goals of students and the surrounding community. The Dean of Student Services reports directly to the Vice President of Academics and Student Services. To carry out this position, the Dean is responsible for collaborating appropriately and effectively with others to accomplish the College’s mission and vision.
Essential Duties
- Manage development of new student programs and services as they are considered and selected by the College.
- Work closely with area employers, secondary and post-secondary school systems, community agencies and groups, and others to develop partnerships that are in the best interest of the College and its students.
- Serve as WSCC’s Affirmative Action/504 Compliance representative and Title IX Coordinator.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets that meet the needs of Student Services while also maintaining fiscal responsibility and prudence.
- Provide supervision and mentorship for six direct reports.
- Foster the development of effective and efficient processes within Student Services and for students, using current technology whenever possible.
- Ensure that stakeholders are receiving necessary and engaging information by coordinating outreach efforts and offering community-oriented events.
- Represent the College and Student Services in the community and at state and national events as needed.
- Provide advising and direct student support.
- Serve as the primary designated official for the international student program.
- Prepare the Annual Security Report.
- Serve on the President's Leadership Team, Student Success Team, and the Academic Leadership Team.
- Oversee and serve as the coordinator of student services related initiatives.
- Serve on local and state organizations related to position/education.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution in educational leadership, or a field related to student services; or master’s degree and related experience
- Minimum of five years’ experience within student services, or a related department/industry
- Ability to contribute to a culture in the Student Services department that is collegial, welcoming and inclusive and operates with the highest standards of effectiveness and professionalism
- Proven progressive leadership experience including excellent organization and communication skills
- Commitment to the entire mission of a comprehensive community college
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of current and emerging trends relating to promising practices in student affairs and student success, and a commitment to excellence
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, staff, and K-12 districts
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in a relevant area of study
- Prior community college experience
- Working knowledge of Title IX processes and hearings
- Knowledge of computerized student information systems
- Experience with process improvement practices
