Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Career Development and Experiential Opportunities, the International Student Career Coordinator provides internship, F-1 status, and professional development advisement and support to the international student community at The New School. As a Designated School Official (DSO), the Coordinator advises and provides guidance to F-1 and J-1 students related to their internships, immigration regulations and university policies. Prepares and issues all the necessary immigration documents needed for off-campus employment. Works directly with the State Department, US Department of Homeland Security, consular officers, and immigration officials on matters relating to non-immigrant foreign students as needed.

CPT PROCESSING/COACHING
- Provides guidance to students on school internships policies, career guidance, and career trajectories via email and in-person/virtual appointments
- Oversees and maintains and tracks all international students' internship records
- Act as a Designated School Official (DSO) while operating SEVIS USCIS tracking system and recording Curricular Practical Training (CPT) for F-1 International Students
- Guides students with maintaining their legal status and evaluating immigration documents and academic records to determine students' eligibility for off-campus employment CPT (Curricular Practical Training).
- Processes all CPT requests for students participating in internships outside of the university
- Manages and responds timely to email, phone and in-person inquiries from students about their CPT status and internships policies
- Develop informational and educational materials for students
- Creates materials for employers to establish international partnerships
- Resolve any issues concerns or conflicts that may arise during the employer/ international student internship period
- Communicates with staff, faculty, students and employers about internships and CPT policies and regulations
- Interprets and adheres to government regulations, university policies, procedures and practices
- Complies with federal SEVIS reporting and data management requirements
RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
- Liaises with the Office of International Student Services and Scholars (ISSS) and provides guidance to international students on Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
- Communicates with employers, faculty and staff about internship policies and regulations
- Builds relationships with key stakeholders to increase internships for international students
PROGRAMMING
- Develops interactive virtual and in-person workshops with student learning outcomes
- Facilitate workshops and events to educate students on CPT regulations and promote the professional success of international students
- Collaborates with staff, schools, departments and outside organizations (including vendors) to plan events
- Establishes a professional presence on campus and in the field through partnerships and associations; and participates in education conferences and meetings.
STUDENT WORKERS
- Hire and train supervises student employees; delegate tasks and monitor student workers' work progress as well as time sheet collection/submission, but not limited to the International Student Peer Career Ambassador
- Other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum 2 years' related experience in a diversity/equity/inclusion/social justice higher education setting, event planning, career services, employer relations or higher education
- A minimum of two years of experience working in either career coaching/development or counseling setting, experience in customer service and ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new computer applications
- Demonstrated intercultural competence; and a continuing commitment to advance equity, inclusion, and social justice practices in support of a diverse community
- Exercises impeccable discretion to implement University, school-specific, and governmental program-specific policies with respect to student status at the university
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills, including sensitivity to cultural differences
- Effective presentation, demonstrated oral and written communication skills
- Proven abilities in personal judgment and critical thinking skills to help others make values-based decisions regarding career path
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize and manage effectively multiple deadlines and projects
- Self-starter with an interest in working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and nimble team environment
- Ability to assist with implementation of new events with impeccable attention to detail
- Some nights and weekends required
- Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree
- Knowledge of Career Career Management systems, Banner, DegreeWorks, and Starfish
- Experience with NACE, LinkedIn or other coaching-related professional organizations and tools
- Experience working in higher education/career coaching
