DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

As a security first organization, Technology Delivery Services (TDS) is part of the Information Technology (IT) Department. The TDS teams include Information Security, Planning (architecture and PMO), Application Development, HR & Payroll Development, Infrastructure, and Client Services teams. We maintain an innovative, inclusive, and supportive work environment.

POSITION SUMMARY

University of California Office of the President (UCOP) is seeking an intern to add an Information Security Analyst Student Intern to a growing and fast-paced Information Security team. As a member of Information Technology Services (ITS) you will provide a broad spectrum of information security services. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to learn security risk frameworks and assessment techniques, become familiar with industry standard security metrics, and identify and propose solutions to secure systems and data, under the supervision and guidance of experienced security professionals. This role provides an opportunity to gain experience working with managers and staff across UCOP.

This internship is intended to be year-round, and hours will vary depending on school schedules and availability. The IT Security internship is offered as part of a student internship program in Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of California Office of the President. The ITS internships are paid positions designed for currently enrolled University of California students interested in information technology. This is a remote opportunity for currently enrolled University of CA students.

Responsibilities

40%

Risk Management: Support and perform security risk assessments (including vendor reviews).

30%

Analysis & Reporting: Maintain security metrics, reporting and dashboards.

30%

Other Duties: Support special projects, attend and document meetings, prepare presentations, supporting creation of security awareness, procedure and communication documents and web pages.

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled University of California student.
• Strong interpersonal and oral communications skills.
• Strong writing skills, including the ability to write for a general, non-technical audience.
• Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Good analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to plan, track and prioritize tasks.
• An interest in information technology and desire to learn.
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable as priorities evolve.
• Ability to work well with ambiguity and experimentation, and to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working both independently, and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working towards a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a similar discipline.
• Basic knowledge of Windows (Unix knowledge helpful).
• Understanding of security governance, compliance and risk management principles and/or frameworks.
• Experience with Cascade content management system (CMS).

Education

• High school graduate and/or equivalent experience/training.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary: $19.96 - 24.95 hourly commensurate with skills/experience.

Part-time, REMOTE internships available for currently enrolled University of CA students. Must reside in CA or willing to relocate.
