Research Assistant/Associate Professor,

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department (MAE) at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is inviting applications for a Research Faculty position at the Assistant/Associate level to support research on Materials Science topics including metals, ceramics, carbon-based structures, and composites. The position will be focused on the synthesis, characterization, and testing of materials. A Ph.D. in Materials Science or a closely related field is required. The applicant should possess expertise on characterization techniques such as SEM and XRD, and testing of mechanical, thermal and/or electrical properties. It is also preferred that the candidate has experience with advanced techniques including TEM.
The candidate must be able to record and interpret data, write technical reports and publications and present results in technical forums. The candidate will be expected to assist teaching faculty in running the instrumentation for class labs and demonstrations. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with other NPS faculty members and staff on sponsored research projects, including proposal preparation and sponsor interactions, as well as advising graduate students. Demonstrated experience conducting experimental research programs is mandatory. To be considered for the position, candidates should have US citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance.
