Metro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor of Linguistics. This is a full-time, fixed-term position within the Writing, Literature, and Language department and will start on August 15, 2024. A fixed-term position is a one-year position that can be renewed up to three times.

Faculty members are expected to:
Demonstrate the ability to teach Linguistics and Spanish courses effectively to a post-traditional student population and contribute to meaningful assessment of student learning, including anti-racist learning.
Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.
Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.
Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
Engage in service to the university and community.
Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.
A minimum of a master's degree in the specified discipline(s), with enrollment in a doctoral program for fields in which the doctoral degree is the terminal degree.
Demonstrated potential for success in teaching and professional service activities.
A plan for scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research in the specified discipline(s), or related disciplines.
Effective Communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse workforce and student population.
Demonstrated ability and desire to work collegially with faculty and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.
A Ph.D. in Linguistics, Hispanic Linguistics, or related field.
Ability to develop and teach Linguistics courses such as Language and Culture, Semantics, and Pragmatics, with significant focus on issues of race and racism.
Interest in developing and teaching Spanish Language courses.
Evidence of designing and teaching creative, rigorous, and organized in- person courses as well as asynchronous online courses with a high-touch instructor presence.
Interest in high degree of engagement with students outside of the classroom (mentoring, clubs, student organizations, student publications, student research, etc.).
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to serve program goals and initiatives.
Demonstrated effectiveness teaching at a post-secondary level.
Experience developing course curricula at a post-secondary institution.
Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post- secondary institution.
Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and/or universal design.
Experience as an academic advisor for students at post-secondary institution.
