Position Summary: The Regional Director leads and manages two Federally funded programs, the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the APEX Accelerator Program at JCCC. The Director provides strategic direction in development of consulting services, programs and resources for entrepreneurs seeking to launch, expand, stabilize or transition their small business in Johnson, Wyandotte and Miami County, Kansas. The Director is responsible for actively engaging in community outreach and legislative events, innovative professional development, fiscal management of JCCC and multiple federal grant budgets, and the collection of economic impact data.
Required Qualifications: • This position requires a Master’s degree in Business Administration or business- related advanced degree. • Five years of business management and five years of supervisory experience. • Five years’ experience developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting budgets and/or financial information. • Valid driver license. • Demonstrated strong written communication. • Ability to speak publicly with large and small groups. • Experience with grants. • Strong use of technology related to database, web, marketing and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications: • Past ownership of a small business. • Experience consulting with small business. • Experience marketing small business.

Position Details:Job duties include but are not limited to:
Leadership and Management – Responsible for leading the Center and ensuring the programs are supported with successful grant proposals. Develops, implements and tracks the services provided to clients and community engagement activities. Establishes and monitors metrics and goals for the Center, including the work of 3 SBDC advisors, 1 Capital Access Center Director, 1 Coordinator, 1 APEX Accelerator Director, independent contractors and vendors. Effectively manages complex multiple budgets which include funding from Federal grants, private entities and JCCC funding. Manages a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment with tight timelines and competing priorities.
Public Relations and Marketing – Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with external stakeholders (Economic Development Organizations, Chambers of Commerce, Professional Organizations, Government Agencies, Legislators, Financial Institutions, Higher Education, and Past Clients) and internal stakeholders (Board of Trustees, Foundation, Student Agency, Faculty, Staff, Grant Office, Marketing, and Finance) that benefit the Center and JCCC. Actively participates in community outreach, events and meetings. Serves in a leadership role on boards, committees, advisory groups, and task forces. Provides strategic direction for marketing and branding of the Center.
Training & Consulting – Leads the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of advising, consulting and training provided by the Center. Researches best practices and innovative resources for SBDC/APEX clients. Identifies and funds professional development opportunities for self and staff that support best practices, innovation and ongoing process improvement. Serves in leadership roles on JCCC projects, committees, task forces, interview teams, professional development and special assignments.
