Job Purposes::
The College of Health, Education, and Human Services at Wright State University invites applications for the position of Professor and Chair of Nursing. The chair should be dedicated to creating an environment of teaching excellence where students can transform into exceptional nursing leaders who value lifelong learning, a spirit of inquiry, and are resilient within the dynamic healthcare environment. The chair is expected to provide visionary leadership that promotes the delivery of high-quality, accessible academic programs that meet the needs of our students and the region. The chair should be dedicated to advancing the department and nurturing the professional development of students, faculty, and staff. We seek a forward-looking, agile leader who builds positive relationships within the region and who can further build our strong pipeline of talented nurses.
Required Qualifications::
1. Terminal degree in nursing or relevant field
2. A record of teaching, research, and scholarly achievement, commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of professor with tenure as outlined in the Department bylaws: https://policy.wright.edu/college-and-department-bylaws
3. Active Ohio nursing license prior to start date
4. Minimum of 5 years nursing experience as an RN
5. Minimum 2 years as a faculty member at a college or university
6. Prior experience working with programmatic, regulatory, or accreditation compliance at the undergraduate or graduate levels
Preferred Qualifications::
1. Proven leader with a record of significant and successful administrative leadership experience in a university setting as a division director, program director, or department chair
2. Ability and experience to foster collaborative relationships with university administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni
3. Demonstrated record of promoting student success
4. Evidence of strong skills in building and nurturing inter-professional collaborations, community partnerships, and fundraising activities
5. Knowledge of, and experience with, CCNE accreditation, program development, and assessment
6. Demonstrated commitment to the recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds and fostering an inclusive work and learning environment
7. Teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
8. Certification and licensure as APRN
9. Minimum of 5 years in higher education leadership that includes supervision of employees and budget management skills
10. Demonstrated record of obtaining external funding
Essential Functions and percent of time::
75% Department and program administration, including:
- Providing leadership to faculty and staff
- Strategic planning, program development, and assessment
- Developing and maintaining relationships with external constituencies
- Attending partnership activities/meetings, including local, state, and national meetings for associations and other professional organizations
- Maintaining program compliance with regulatory, licensing, and accreditation requirements
- Supervision and evaluation of program directors and college faculty, including conducting the annual review of faculty performance and overseeing promotion and tenure processes within the department
- Overseeing implementation of appropriate collective bargaining agreement procedures
- Supervision and evaluation of departmental staff
- Enrollment management
- Coordinating recruitment and retention activities as well as planning and hosting alumni events
- Scheduling classes and assigning faculty to teach courses within the department
- Administering the budget for the department and assuring compliance with university fiscal policies
- Collaborating with the dean in determining the resources needed to carry out current instructional programs
- Raising funds with the University's development office to support students, programs, and initiatives
- Performing other duties as assigned by the dean
