Position in Communication: Narrative Media Production

Northwestern University’s first international campus, Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q), is searching for a full-time faculty member to join the school’s Program in Communication.
Of special interest are candidates with expertise in narrative media production. The Communication Program emphasizes a strong, symbiotic relationship between theory and practice; candidates therefore should be comfortable with histories and theories of the moving image. The ideal candidate will be a filmmaker who has produced feature and/or short fictional films that have screened at noteworthy film festivals and/or broadcast/cablecast/distributed. Such a candidate would be able to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas: lighting and cinematography (with expertise in Canon C-100, Red One and Epic, Sony F35, and Phantom Flex cameras), directing, sound design, or post-production, as well as production topic courses of the candidate’s choosing. Candidates should have an MFA plus higher-education teaching experience. Experience in editing (Adobe Premiere and Avid), production or post-production sound, and/or producing is also desirable. Interest in the MENA region would be welcomed.
Our NU-Q programs in Journalism, Communication, and Liberal Arts work to advance the understanding and practice of freedom of expression. The successful candidate will join faculty colleagues whose teaching experience includes Northwestern, Stanford, Cambridge, Columbia, Minnesota, and other highly ranked schools. Located in Education City in Doha, Qatar, NU-Q collaborates with sister institutions that include Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Georgetown, Texas A&M, and Virginia Commonwealth. NU-Q faculty-in-residence receive generous research and faculty development support as well a highly competitive salary and a package of benefits and overseas allowances. Candidate should be available to begin August 1, 2017. Rank for these non-tenured positions is based upon qualifications and experience.
