Assistant Director of Clinical Skills Training & Simulation Center

Position Purpose:
Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Skills Training, the Assistant Director of Clinical Skills Training will participate in the design, development, operation and assessment of a clinical skills training center for the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. The Assistant Director will participate in the direction of the standardized patient program including managing, coordinating and monitoring educational exercises involving standardized patients. The Assistant Director will also participate in the use of simulation technology in the training and education of medical students and other health care professionals within Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. The Assistant Director will interact with and be involved in the use and assessment of technology ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to high fidelity human simulators. The Assistant Director will also develop proficiency with, and develop applications for the METI Learning Space system. The Assistant Director will also participate in quality assurance activities and the identification of opportunities for improvement and innovation. The Assistant Director will represent the Clinical Skills Training program at meetings and act in the role of Director of Clinical Skills Training in his/her absence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in a health care discipline, education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two years experience in medical education.
- Broad knowledge of clinical skills training, including the use of standardized patients and medical simulation technology in a medical education setting.
- Ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including but not limited to physicians and faculty, students, patients, standardized patients, and the general public.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Desired Qualifications:
- Has experience in clinical and/or patient care settings.
- Has experience in the development and implementation of clinical skills training curricula.
- Has experience in the supervision of a standardized patient program including training of standardized patients and development and implementation of standardized patient exercises for training and assessment.
- Has experience interacting with students in a post-secondary setting.
- Has knowledge of specific terminology of the unit and program area.
- Has experience in the supervision of a medical simulation center including the development and implementation of simulation activities as well as the selection and maintenance of simulation equipment and learning management software.
