Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time one-year position of Visiting Instructor (or Visiting Assistant Professor with appropriate qualifications) in the Department of Music to begin August 15, 2025.

Applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States. Gustavus will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position. Gustavus is not an e-verify institution.

Prerequisites

What's required:

• MA or MM in Musicology or Ethnomusicology (PhD preferred)
• Prior experience serving as instructor of record for a college course
• Demonstrated commitment and effectiveness as a teacher of students of varying levels and backgrounds, and in fostering development and creative talent in young artists
• A commitment to student success, their health and wellbeing

What's preferred:

• Evidence of effectiveness in teaching
• Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
• Prior experience teaching experience in musicology or ethnomusicology

Things you will do:

• Teach 5 course sections over the academic year. Typically, 3 in the Fall and 2 in the Spring. Two of the sections in Fall and/or Spring may be the same course. Primary teaching responsibilities may/will include America's Music, The Emerging Musician (lecture and lab), and Music, Gender, Sexuality.
• Help cultivate a welcoming community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We strive to foster an environment where people can be themselves, build community, learn, and grow.

• Improve your teaching by joining a teaching circle, participating in workshops, applying for an internal teaching development grant, and engaging in conversations about teaching with colleagues across campus.
• Develop professional skills by participating in faculty meetings and committees, attending faculty development days, and taking advantage of the College's membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).
