The Justin North Lab in the Ohio State University department of Microbiology is seeking a research technician to assist in original research on federally funded projects pertaining to metabolism, biochemistry, and enzymology of biofuel-producing bacteria. The primary focus of the research is metabolism and conversion of carbon dioxide into ethylene.

The research technician will aid senior research personnel and graduate trainees in completing routine laboratory research operations in the North Lab to help meet research goals. Primary research activities to be performed by the research technician include microbial culturing, aseptic technique, autoclaving, media preparation, and use of anaerobic chambers. In addition, research activities also include microbial genetics such as DNA/RNA extraction, cloning, and cell transformation.

Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. One year of relevant experience required. The use of a computer (basic Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills and Internet Explorer) is required for data analysis and some tasks require lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.

Desired: Practical knowledge in aseptic technique. Practical knowledge in microbial culturing.

The pay range for this job profile is $15.70 - $20.67. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
