The Department of Physics offers a major with several different concentrations, a minor, a major through the popular 3-2 Cooperative Engineering program, an initial certification to teach physics in secondary school, an interdisciplinary major in Mathematics-Physics, and courses to complement majors in other areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will:

• Instruct a course load of up to twelve contact hours a semester of physics lectures and/or labs. Some introductory engineering courses may also be included;
• Have a reflective approach to teaching with a commitment to collecting and assessing data on student learning and engagement;
• Contribute to curriculum development and refinement;  
• Provide academic advisement to students;
• Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
• Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.

This is a full-time, term appointed, UUP represented position beginning Fall 2025, with a salary range of $53,000 - $58,000 commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Masters degree in Physics or closely related field;
• Demonstrated ability to teach introductory and upper-level physics courses and labs;
• Demonstrated evidence of potential for excellent teaching;
• Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission;
• Experience with instructional technology;
• Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession;
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience teaching advanced lab courses such as Modern Physics, Optics, and/or Electronics;
• Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering or closely related field;
• Experience in secondary-level Physics teaching; and/or experience in teacher preparation for grades 7-12;
• Experience using an atomic force microscope and/or scanning electron microscope;
• Experience with implementing active engagement and/or research-based strategies for learning and teaching physics;
• Experience managing undergraduate student research projects;
• Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.
