IT Help Desk Technician

Position Summary

The IT Help Desk Technician will be part of a dynamic team of professionals that provide excellent IT service and support to the Department of Statistics and Probability and the Department of Mathematics. This position will work with a wide selection of technologies that support teaching and learning, research, and operations while working closely with faculty, staff, and students. Ideal candidates will have the ability to work well on a team that supports a diverse user base, have excellent communication skills; learn from, and collaborate with, other IT professionals to accomplish tasks and projects.
 
What you'll be doing with us:
 
• Tech support for desktops and laptops running Windows, Mac OS, and Linux
• Tech support for printers, multi-function devices, and tablets
• Setup of new tech devices and decommissioning of old devices
• Tech support of various software and web applications
• Manage and track Department software licenses, including user maintenance and installation
• Maintain IT inventory including hardware and software
• Perform basic server updates, file permission setting changes, and AD group maintenance
• Perform basic Ethernet and WiFi network troubleshooting and manage basic network settings on various devices
• Support and maintain conference and classroom  projectors and misc. AV equipment
• Assist users with virtual meetings on Zoom and Microsoft Teams

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; experience working desktop operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and Linux; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Excellent communication skills: ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical users in a clear and friendly manner
• Customer-centric focus: prioritize customer satisfaction by going above and beyond to resolve issues promptly, follow up on user inquiries, and gather feedback to continuously improve the IT support experience
• Team player: prefer to collaborate with others and work together on solutions. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Willingness to continually advance technical skills through self-study
• Ability to take ownership of a project and see it through to completion
• Experience with automation and scripting tools such as Windows PowerShell, Microsoft Power Automate, and Git
• Experience with Linux command line
• Experience supporting academic technology

Summary of Physical Demands
