Employment Duration: 3 months

The Medical Assistant III plays a critical role in supporting both clinical and administrative functions at the UCSF Berkeley Outpatient Center. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and in collaboration with the clinical team, this role ensures high-quality patient care and flow through all stages of a clinic visit.

The Medical Assistant III manages tasks from check-in to check-out, performs clinical procedures, supports patient scheduling, handles referrals, and assists in emergencies--all while maintaining excellent customer service and operating within an advanced Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

Key Responsibilities:

• Patient Flow & Rooming: Efficiently room patients and manage clinic flow by rotating between clinical and administrative duties as needed.

• Clinical Support: Obtain vital signs, EKGs, patient weights, and assist with exams and procedures. Perform medication reconciliation and specimen collection.

• Patient Communication & Scheduling: Schedule appointments using CADENCE, triage urgent phone calls, and ensure complete patient registration.

• Referral & Lab Coordination: Gather patient histories, prepare referral documentation, assist providers with lab forms, and follow up on outstanding tasks.

• Environment & Safety: Maintain clean and stocked exam rooms, ensure compliance with infection control standards, and follow safety protocols.

• Cross-functional Support: Support specialty clinics by securing authorizations, confirming appointments, and performing pre-clinic prep.

• Administrative Functions: Manage emails, messages, and medication requests through EHR systems and coordinate follow-ups with providers.
