Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an Instructor in the English and Communications Department.  An instructor of English is responsible for course preparation, delivery, grading, and records management. The instructor will work closely with his or her discipline chair and other discipline or cross-discipline faculty on matters related to and for the benefit of the CALA department and its students.  More specifically, and consistent with the terms and conditions of appointment as stipulated in the contract of employment.

1. Teach all courses, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction, including seated, online, hybrid, or blended as needed at any of Durham Tech's instructional sites
2. Be fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course
3. Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with institutional rules and regulations to classroom instruction and general employment
4. Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the department, division, and college
5. Serve as educational advisor to students and participating in semester advising and registration activities for both assigned advisees and as needed by individual students
6. Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings, committees, and other special appointments
7. Assist in the revision and development of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation and in the identification, development, preview, and acquisition of educational resources and supplies required to meet program objectives and improve instruction
8. Maintain complete course and student records, reports, and forms
9. Attend training and other professional development opportunities on- or off-campus and stay current with developments in the field of instruction
10. Complete all mandatory trainings 
11. Fulfill committee assignments and other special appointments within the educational community as well as the community-at-large, and otherwise giving appropriate support to institutional endeavors when appropriate;
12. Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the chair, department dean, chief instructional officer, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college
13. Assume responsibility for laboratory/classroom preparation, including cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipment

master's degree in English or Rhetoric and Composition or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in English. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

18 graduate semester hours in Communications and / or college-level teaching experience in communications courses.

Work Experience:  

Two years of successful curriculum English instruction at a university or community college.
