Position Summary

The Custodial Operations Supervisor plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of Hamilton College facilities, while also adhering to safety procedures. This position involves leadership in developing and maintaining an effective cleaning program that aligns with the available resources. The supervisor oversees custodians, guiding them in task planning, prioritization, and implementing best practices to uphold high cleaning standards. Additionally, in collaboration with the Custodial Operations Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for coordinating daily service delivery to meet the needs of the college community. Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily service operations of the Custodial Operations Team, seven days a week.
• Maintain computerized records for overtime, absenteeism, performance, time-off requests, and staffing.
• Assist in recruitment, interviewing, hiring, evaluation, and termination of staff with HR and the Manager.
• Plan and track procedural training for team members upon hiring and throughout employment.
• Evaluate and implement new cleaning techniques and equipment for efficiency.
• Plan and manage custodial services for special events like Commencement and Convocation.
• Regularly inspect facilities to ensure cleaning and maintenance standards.
• Oversee and perform disinfection measures against communicable diseases.
• Check event setups for accuracy.
• Work with other campus offices to address needs and concerns.
• Create and manage work orders through the time management system.
• Perform electronic payroll approval and utilize the delegation when you are away.
• Ensure staff have the necessary materials and equipment.
• Participate in sustainability initiatives for waste management.
• Maintain a safe and effective work environment.
• Promote teamwork and cooperation within Facilities Management and the college community.

Education and Experience

• An associate's degree in environmental services/facilities management or a related field, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience managing a large workforce in a facilities environment required.
• Experience in a Union environment preferred. 
• An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 
• APPA certification and other certifications in facilities management will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated knowledge of custodial service policy, procedures, standards, methods, safety, and OSHA regulations. 
• Demonstrated management skills, ability to multitask, establish priorities and deadlines, and manage to meet established deadlines.  Ability to problem solve, analyze, and change priorities when needed.
• Ability to give front-line performance-based feedback to custodians professionally with a focus on identifying specifics on what aspects of performance require improvement, what areas of performance are being achieved to standards or above, and provide continuous developmental feedback to improve overall performance of the stewards.
• Strong written and oral communication skills. 
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with internal Facilities Management shops/departments and other campus organizations.
• Ability to develop, maintain, and promote cooperative, professional, and respectful working relationships with all department employees, vendors, and business partners. 
• Must have enthusiasm for the job and a positive, supportive customer service approach. 
• Knowledge and experience of Microsoft products (Excel and Word). 
• Ability to work outside the standard operating shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• NYS Driver's License.

Compensation Range:

$65,000 per year
