Job Purposes::

Required Qualifications::

• Graduate degree in Intervention Specialist, Special Education, Elementary Education or related field.
• Extensive coursework or experience as an Intervention Specialist in an elementary setting or as Elementary Education background with strong evidence of skills and training for inclusive classrooms for students with disabilities.
• Three years of teaching in P-5 settings (i.e., formal and/or informal education).

Preferred Qualifications::

• Expertise and experience in other areas that support Intervention Specialists, including but not limited to Transitions, Collaboration, Co-teaching, and curricular development.
• Experience in collaboration with school districts for improving quality of instruction and inclusion practices.
• Familiarity with Educator Preparation accreditation processes.
• Familiarity with Ohio Learning Standards.
• Record of successful teaching in institutions of higher education or working with teacher candidates.
• Ability to obtain grants and awards to fund innovative programs to improve Intervention Specialist and Elementary Education scholarship and programming.

Essential Functions and percent of time::

• Teach and develop courses in the Intervention Specialist (IS) and Elementary Education P-5 (EED) programs, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based instruction that prepares educators for diverse classroom settings.
• Mentor, advise, and supervise students, fostering their academic and professional growth through individualized support and field-based learning experiences.
• Prepare for teaching assigned classes in the Intervention Specialist and Elementary Education programs, supervised practice, or special topics depending on expertise.
• Track class membership, post grades and complete change of grade requests through Wings Express.
• Post course materials and communicate with students through WSU Learning Management systems.
• Develop and teach online courses designed by program team and approved by department chair.
• Teach classes as scheduled during daytime, evening, weekend, web enhanced, and/or online.
• Communicate promptly with department staff regarding class scheduling, book orders, and program meetings.
• Participate in program team meetings and curricular initiatives.
• Submit course syllabi and hold office hours as required.
• Work with Department Chair to make timely curricular improvements or changes in courses.
• Participate in professional development opportunities.

• Provide strategic leadership as the Director of the IS Programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, overseeing curriculum development, accreditation processes, and program innovation.
• Serve as an active contributor to departmental, college, and university committees, shaping policies and initiatives that impact teacher education programs.
• Work closely with EED program director to enhance collaboration across programs.
• Lead and support recruitment, retention, and alumni engagement efforts, strengthening program visibility and sustainability.
• Participate in alumni relations special events.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across campus and within fellow institutions.
• Participate in Professional Organizations.
