Summary
 

Under general direction, the Assistant Director for the William C. Wefel Center for Employment Law serves as support for the Center and its constellation of events, academic programs, and ongoing engagement.  The Assistant Director is a faculty position at the rank of Instructor and will provide direction and administrative oversight to Center activities in concert with the Law School Dean, Associate Dean, and the Centers faculty directors. 

Job Duties:

• Provides advice to students on the employment concentration, labor and employment classes, opportunities for engagement, and career options in the field. 

• Plays a key role in establishing opportunities for students to meet the concentrations requirements for professional and co-curricular activities and practical experiences.

• Performs administrative duties and process oversight in relation to the Centers students and faculty.

• Develops, organizes, and participates in symposia, workshops, panel discussions, speakers, and other events relating to labor and employment law.   

• Collaborates with Communications, Alumni & Development, and other law school departments on promoting Center events and activities.

• Supervises marketing, publications, and web-marketing for the Center, including the creation and distribution of a Center newsletter. 

• Fosters engagement with the Centers constituents, including Center faculty, students, alumni, local and national labor and employment academics, and practitioners. 

• Establishes and maintains contact with outside organizations such as government agencies, professional organizations, law firms and other law schools to aid in achieving overall program objectives.

• Works with Center faculty to support ongoing research projects.

• Demonstrated ability to work well with multiple constituencies, including students, faculty, administrators, University leadership, practitioners, judges, policy makers, and corporate and other private sector leaders

• Ability and willingness to organize and execute conferences, symposia, and other events

• Facility with social media

• Strong research and writing skills

• Commitment to ongoing social justice and racial equity work to identify, challenge, and remove barriers to access at the individual, community, and system level

Education and Experience

A JD is required, as well as specific knowledge of labor and employment law and policy.  An additional 2-3 years of experience in an administrative or managerial capacity is preferred.
