Cheyney University of Pennsylvania Communication Arts program seeks outstanding candidates for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Multimedia Production. The anticipated faculty member will primarily rejuvenate the program’s media production curriculum in a broadly defined term, which includes computer graphics. An ideal candidate is expected to promote the program’s mission to educate/train a next generation of multimedia journalists and content creators, particularly those from underserved communities such as Black and other groups of color/race. This position requires dedication to teaching students to create/produce content for various online audio-visual media as well as traditional broadcast media. The ideal candidate has demonstrated evidence of using Mass Media as a means of social change.

The position is expected to strengthen and expand existing course offerings in script writing, audio/video production, broadcast journalism, and documentary production. The new faculty member is expected to have a creative/professional portfolio that provides insight into the state-of-the-art engagement in every aspect of TV/video production, broadcast journalism, investigative news/documentary production, freelance videography, and/or other digital media production opportunities. The new hire will also enhance the students’ portfolio creations across creative and dynamic emerging media practices. In addition, the new hire will demonstrate excellent writing skills that students need to develop the media content they are creating. Eventually, the new faculty will bridge students’ education/training in the classroom and their professional careers in the industry.

This tenure-track position will teach undergraduate courses in TV Studio Production, Video Production, Radio/Sound Production, TV News Video, TV/ Film Script Writing, and Video Editing, and may teach related courses such as Film History, Black Cinema and Media Aesthetics & Criticism, as well as other classes related to the applicant’s expertise. The new hire is expected to develop courses that strengthen and extend the program’s current curriculum as well as to produce quality creative works, advise/teach students, and provide service to the discipline, the department, and the university.
This position will start the fall semester of 2025.

Primary responsibilities include the following: 

• Teach various media production courses. 
• Strengthen curricular and extra-curricular rigor in the subject matter area.
• Advise/train student media content creators.
• Complete course and program assessment.
• Maintain/operate media production labs/studios.
• Engage in department and university service.

Required Qualifications
 Candidates must have 

1. The terminal degree in the field or a closely related field.
2. 3+ years of professional experience in the industry
3. Active, current networks of resources in the industry
4. 3+ years of successful, in-person college-level teaching experiences
5. Portfolio of professional work that demonstrates expertise in multimedia and digital media production
6. Creative capacity to integrate theory and practice 
7. Mentoring students for professional experiences in the field
8. Excellent (inter-personal, verbal and written) communication skills
9. Commitment to social justice
10.  Emerging trajectory of creative and professional practices in their field

Preferred Qualifications

1. MFA in TV/Multimedia Production or a closely related field
2. Active professional engagements in Graphic Design
3. Active industry connections for students’ professional opportunities
4. Record of funding/grant acquisition
