Job Description:

General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for preparing, reviewing, posting, analyzing and maintaining accurate accounting records.

Detailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for monthly reconciliations of various accounts including those from affiliates to be reviewed and approved by the assistant comptroller.
2. Responsible for the submission of monthly state mandated interfaces in the state comptroller system.
3. Responsible for the preparation of various external reports.
4. Responsible for reconciling tuition cash receipts and preparing transfer of same to the Commonwealth.
5. Responsible for the interfacing and reconciliation of payroll and fringe benefits to the general ledger system.
6. Assist in the preparation, review and reconciliation of feed transactions from internal and external modules to the Finance modules.
7. Responsible for processing of various federal drawdown requests and verifying subsequent receipt.
8. Assist the Staff Accountant to set up Banner account structure inclusive of detail codes etc.
9. Assist in the quarterly, interim and year end closing procedures and preparation of financial statements for the University, the Fitchburg State University Foundation and the FSU Foundation Supporting Organization;
10. Responsible for procedures necessary to close the year end processes, including all related reconciliations and reviews.
11. Assist in the annual audit of the University, Foundation and Supporting Organization. Including assisting in the preparation of the notes to the financial statement, schedules, retrieval of documents, investigation, report generation and answering questions.
12. Responsible for back up of various accounting functions as needed.
13. Assist with various federal and state reporting for all subsidiaries.
14. Assist and advise students, faculty and administrators, regarding the Finance Office policies and procedures.
15. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
2. Knowledge of accounting databases
3. Knowledge of computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets and accounting software
4. General ledger accounting experience
5. Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with the public & members of the college community
6. Ability to express self in written and verbal communication
7. Ability to follow written and oral instruction
8. Ability to gather information and resolve problems using computer or verbal inquiry
9. Ability prepare and maintain accurate records
10. Ability to prepare accurate reports
11. Ability to set priorities and work independently to assigned complete assigned tasks
12. Ability to learn and follow specific guidelines and policies when preparing work
13. Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation
