Blood Bank Technologist (HS)
Scope of Position Medical Technologist prepares blood components for transfusion. Preparation of blood components includes: receiving blood products from outside sources, thawing FFP/ Cryoprecipitate, and allocating blood products for transfusions. Technologists process specimens to include entering test results into the computer system, ABO/RH typing, crossmatching, antibody screening and identification. The medical technologist receives telephone inquiries regarding specimens, test results, and product availability. The medical technologist is responsible for issuing blood and blood products for patient transfusion. Staff must maintain patient files receive and distributes supplies within the department.
