The UW-Madison, Rhinelander Agricultural Research Station (RARS) supports the research and outreach efforts of UW-Madison scientists, with primary focus on potato breeding and variety development.

The person in this position will operate various types of farm equipment performing specialized research and general agriculture operation, including field operations, greenhouse production, and post-harvest evaluation. This position is critical to the maintenance of the potato breeding program at the Rhinelander Agricultural Research Station.

• 25% Operates, cleans, and repairs basic and complex agricultural machines and equipment to ensure safety and operable functionality and to adhere to established rules, policies, and regulations
• 15% Applies pesticides in accordance with best practices and established rules, policies, and regulations
• 25% Stages equipment and machines in preparation of agricultural activities
• 25% Maintains organization of designated facilities and associated supplies, notifies appropriate entities of damaged materials or the need for supply replenishment
• 10% Documents completion of duties according to established policies and procedures

Required:
- Ability to operate tractors, tractors with loaders, and/or skid loaders for agronomic functions such as soil tillage, fertilizer application, planting/seeding, or crop harvest.
- Ability to perform general farm operations of loading and unloading materials and/or snow removal
- Ability to perform general farm facilities maintenance or repairs.

Preferred:
- Ability to set up, calibrate, and/or make adjustments to farm equipment as required to meet research and field condition needs.
- Experience with applying pesticides in an agricultural or research setting
- Experience with Microsoft Office (word, excel, outlook, etc)
- Experience or knowledge related to potato variety development or small plot research

Must be able to obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License within the first 6 months of employment

-Normal working hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
-This position requires scheduled and on-call status for evening and weekend pesticide application, irrigation, or storage efforts.
-Some overtime during the field season at RARS is expected and when commuting to the Hancock Research Station, which is two hours from RARS
-At times it may be required to have out of town overnight stays to facilitate operational needs.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $21.42 - $23.50. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. - This position will be 100%, full-time, for 9 months during the crop season and will be 50%, part-time, for approximately 3 months each year.
- Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs repetitively and work outdoors in adverse weather.
- A criminal background check will be conducted on finalist. This position has been identified as a position of trust. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial background check, as well as a subsequent check every four years. This role must also self-report any criminal arrests, charges, or convictions
-Probationary Period may be required
