The Department of Counseling and Educational Leadership at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in its Master’s level School Counseling program beginning Fall 2025. This position requires development and teaching of online/distance education courses. In addition, faculty will be responsible for maintaining scholarly activity and service for the program, university, profession, and community. The School Counseling program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). Program completers meet the educational requirements for certification as a PK-12 Elementary and Secondary School Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. The program’s primary goal is to train future PK-12 professional school counselors who can help school-aged students navigate the complexities of school and life, while promoting a successful educational experience through academic, social/emotional, and career development. Minimum Qualifications
- Candidate must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.Ed.) in Counselor Education and Supervision from a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited doctoral program at the time of hire.
- Candidate must have a master’s degree in School Counseling and hold a state certification/license as a professional school counselor.
- Candidate must have five (5) years of full-time, post-Master’s experience working as a certified professional school counselor in a PK-12 school setting.
- Candidate must have a strong School Counseling professional identity.
- The successful candidate must be able to communicate well and/or perform well in an interview and teaching demonstration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates with ten (10) or more years of full-time experience working as a certified school counselor in a PK-12 school setting are preferred.
- Candidates with 3 (three) or more years full-time prior experience teaching graduate courses in School Counseling and/or counseling related fields are preferred.
- Candidates with experience teaching graduate courses independently through distance education platforms, particularly experience with using virtual synchronous classrooms are preferred.
- Candidates with experience using synchronous and asynchronous teaching technology (e.g., course management system, Zoom, video and audio recording programs) are preferred.
- Candidates with additional certifications are preferred (e.g. Approved Clinical Supervisor, National Certified Counselor, National Certified School Counselor, and Licensed Professional Counselor).
- Other preferred qualifications include recent scholarly activity and service to the school counseling profession and community on national, state, and local levels.
