Position:
This position is a part-time appointment to teach a 3-credit course in the Painting Department during the fall 2025 semester, PT 233 - Working from Life: Untraditional.
Job Description:
The faculty position will teach a 3 credit studio course, Working from Life: Untraditional, within the Painting program, at an art school nationally known for its dedication to teaching excellence, a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and the importance of the fine arts. The candidate will be capable of teaching various levels of the undergraduate program, be proficient in traditional techniques, and have a broad understanding of new approaches to painting. In addition to teaching, all part-time faculty are expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the program and college.
This course involves working with, but moving beyond traditional practices of rendering, exploring what it means to work from life. Observation will be considered a direct experiential practice that taps all the senses. Students will question and challenge their ideas about their artistic practice (materials, physical dimensions and environment) and actively engage in cooperative dialogues and art production with and alongside their peers. Classes will be conducted in the studio and in the field.
Minimum Requirements:
BFA degree
Knowledge of various aspects of painting practice.
Basic knowledge of Canvas LMS is required to teach Painting students.
Experience teaching at the college-level beyond graduate assistantships is preferred.
Candidate must successfully complete a full background check
Additional Information:
Salary:$4,515.00 - $7,656.00 Commensurate with experience and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The part-time faculty are represented by the SEIU Local 500.
Physical demands and work environment:
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Required training: MICA Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
