Detailed Description:
The Associate Director Health Equity and Access will actively develop and align Wellness programming with the Thriving Student Model. Create, develop and lead trainings for USD Community on Health Equity and Access best practices and initiatives. Create educational and programmatic offerings focused on Health Equity and Access for students with marginalized identities. Lead alcohol and other drug individual assessments, counseling, and consultations, facilitate groups with an emphasis on harm and risk reduction. Designs, coordinates, and implements prevention initiatives for the university community. Maintains and enhances clinical protocols and processes. Collaborate with other Student Wellness departments in creating and facilitating outreach programs, trainings and activities. Lead integrated wellbeing initiatives, programs and activities, in the new Palomar Health Student Wellness Center at the University of San Diego. Participates in supporting training programs, including the provision of clinical supervision for eligible trainees. Adheres to the professional regulations mandated by the state of California. Utilizes electronic medical record software to document clinical activity. Participates in Integrated Care Model working with various mental health and medical providers and directly leads elements of the health promotion and prevention efforts with a specific emphasis on alcohol and other drugs. Participates in the Student Wellness on-call mental health coverage and support to the USD Community, (nights and weekends as needed). Other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Promotion, Prevention, Outreach and Training Initiatives

• Develop and implement a variety of paraprofessional and professional trainings, programs, presentations and workshops for the USD community on various holistic wellness topics (i.e. alcohol and other drugs, self-care, sexual or gender based violence, sleep, adjustment concerns, bystander intervention).
• Facilitate workshops and trainings with groups such as Athletics, Residential Life, University Ministry, Academic Affairs, and other Student Affairs units. Plan events, develop and present materials for constituency's specific needs and goals.
• Actively develop and align Wellness programming with the USD Thriving Student Model, with specific focus on the holistic wellness domain.
• Create educational and programmatic offerings focused on Health Equity and Access for students with marginalized identities.
• Create, develop and lead trainings for USD Community on Health Equity and Access best practices and initiatives.
• Participate in the development and implementation of trainings for trainees and student leaders.
• Assists in creating, editing and publishing of wellness related educational materials.
• Participate in institutionalized Student Wellness outreach efforts including National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, Mental Health Screenings, Sexual Assault Awareness Week, and Safe Spring Break, Orientation Events)
• Collaborate with the Student Health Center on Health Equity and Access initiatives and practices.
• Collaborate with other Student Wellness departments in creating and facilitating outreach programs, trainings and activities.
• Lead integrated wellbeing initiatives, programs and activities, in the new USD Wellness Center.
• Serve on designated unit, area, division and other University and community committees.
• Other duties as assigned

Direct Service Initiatives

• Conduct individual alcohol and other drug related assessments following department guidelines and professional and ethical standards. Develop and implement appropriate educational materials to complement interventions.
• Provide culturally responsive services to underserved student populations and students with marginalized identities (students from racial and ethnic minority groups, students with LGBTQA+ identities, students who identify as military connected, male identified students) including both AOD specific counseling and general mental health counseling.
• Facilitate psychoeducational and process orientated counseling groups and consultations, including but not limited to mandated experiences referred by the USD Office of Ethical Development and Restorative Practices.
• Assist with ongoing development, implementation and coordination of the Wellness clinical training program, including supervision of trainees (graduate students and undergraduate students).
• Support the development of a university recovery community
• Provide consultation to key USD stakeholders regarding health equity and access best practices.
• Actively participate in the university integrated care service delivery model (InCa)
• Provide care coordination (i.e. case management services) for students seeking access to various wellness resources including 12-step support
• Provide urgent and crisis response services to students
• Participates in the Student Wellness on-call mental health coverage and support to the USD Community, (nights and weekends as needed).

Administrative Responsibilities

• Participate in weekly group and individual staff meetings and other staff development activities, including the weekly integrated care team meeting (InCa).
• Maintain clinical documentation via the university's electronic medical record software that is in accordance with unit standards and ethical guidelines
• Work collaboratively to create, edit, and publish educational materials and brochures.
• Coordinate and oversee the administrative processes for various harm reduction programs such as the USD emergency ride service
• Maintain and contribute to the enhancement of clinical protocols.
• Facilitate administrative aspects of undergraduate and a graduate level training programs.
• Perform general office duties in absence of staff support (phones, correspondence, visitor assistance, etc).
• Work directly with others to provide training and supervision on clinical protocols, coordinate administrative processes, and compile statistical reports for clinical services and outcomes based assessment.
• Participate in the preparation of unit reports and federally mandated reports.

Special Conditions of Employment:

• Must be willing to work evenings and weekends to participate in wellness outreach and training programs to meet the wellness needs of the USD administrative and student population.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

• Required Master's Degree (MSW, MA, MS, MEd) in Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work or other related field.
• Working knowledge of Health Equity practices and initiatives.
• Five years experience in creating and providing programs and services that serve to increase health care access and health care education.
• Experience with harm reduction approaches, relapse prevention, and motivational interviewing interventions.
• Licensed or eligibility for licensure as a mental health provider in California (Psychology, LCSW, MFT or LPCC). Must be licensed within 1 year of employment start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology; licensure (or license eligible).
• Demonstrated excellence in AOD assessments, motivational interviewing and other harm reduction approaches to treatment.
• Experience working with students in recovery and recovery communities.
• Supervisory experience of trainees (practicum students) and/or undergraduate peer educators.

• Excellent human relation and communication skills: showing ability to work with diverse populations and establish/ maintain collaborative relationships with organizations within the university and the community.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current alcohol and other drug issues impacting the college-aged population and specific higher risk groups (i.e. Sorority and Fraternity life, Athletics, Military connected/affiliated students, students with co-occurring wellness concerns).
• Work alignment with the mission, vision, and strategic plan of USD and co-curricular learning outcomes.
• Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to on-going and development of culturally responsive interventions.
• Creativity and imagination to envision and initiate original solutions to challenging problems.
• Ability to facilitate meetings and groups, coach and mentor students.
• Mediation, conflict resolution, decision-making and implementation skills; experience in a leadership/supervisory role.
• Ability to establish and maintain a level of confidentiality congruent with the policies of the University and Student Wellness.
• Experience in the design and implementation of training events and programs. Ability to evaluate students through consultations and utilize skills to assess student needs and prepare plan for improvement.
• Possesses excellent writing and basic research skills.
• Ability to respond to urgent and/or crisis situations.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational techniques, ability to remain calm under pressure and be able to multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment.
• Ability to initiate, coordinate, oversee and complete various projects in a team atmosphere with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to collaboration with campus partners and university stakeholders.
• Excellent skills in the use of specific equipment and tools as identified below.

Posting Salary:
$6,330.25 - 8,730.82 per month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
