Under the leadership of the Associate Director of Health Promotion and Prevention Services (HPPS), the Health Promotion Manager (HPM) uses ecological strategies, health promotion and health behavior theory and strategies, knowledge of social justice theories and health disparities, and quantitative and qualitative data to systematically improve the health and wellbeing environment for Princeton University students, faculty, and staff. The HPM provides creative and proactive leadership for initiatives within HPPS and acts as a liaison to multiple campus stakeholders around a variety of health promotion topics and strategies. The HPM interfaces regularly with our high-achieving student body and campus-wide colleagues, primarily through: directing and supervising the Peer Health Adviser program, leading the Action Matters section of and more broadly coordinating the UMatter initiative, and overseeing the social media accounts of HPPS UMatter. The HPM may also coordinate other project-based efforts and health promotion programs alongside HPPS staff using health behavior theory and an ecological framework. To accomplish these projects, the HPM will be adept at establishing solid collaborative relationships with students as well as staff and administrators within UHS and from other units across campus, as they will serve as a consultative resource to those campus partners to apply the health promotion process and evidence-based strategies to improve the campus environment, support healthier behaviors, advance health equity conversations and education, and build a foundation from a unified, holistic approach to well-being and to assist campus partners in achieving measurable improvements in student well-being. Although undergraduate and graduate students represent the area's primary focus, the HPM recognizes that our University community is rich with important interdependencies and opportunities for modeling and learning among all campus groups, students, staff, and faculty.

Independently manages the Peer Health Advisers, a group of approximately 50 undergraduate students with a dual role of serving as a one-on-one resource for other students as well as implementing health promotion programs targeting Princeton undergraduates. This responsibility involves:

• Training and supervision of the PHAs including supervising the implementation of their programs;
• Tracking, recruitment, and coordinating the PHA selection process;
• Managing the budget for the PHA program (approximately $8,700.00 per year);
• Editing a sexual health column that appears periodically in the student newspaper written by PHAs;
• The administration and oversight of the PHA social media accounts;
• Participation in the Peer to Peer Collective, a campus-wide committee led by the OCE
• Collaboration with student-facing colleagues across campus including in the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students, the Office of Religious Life, the Carl A. Fields Center, the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, and others.

Serves as coordinator of the UMatter initiative, a Campus Life-wide social marketing and communications campaign focusing on high-risk drinking reduction, mental health promotion, interpersonal violence prevention, and promotion of active bystandership behaviors. This responsibility involves:

• Direct supervision of the Action Matters Engagement Specialist, an undergraduate student employee who supports the UMatter campaign through the development of social media and outreach activities
• Oversight of the activities (e.g., meetings, social media content production, and outreach) of the team of 4-5 Engagement Specialists
• Serving as a member of the UHS staff Leadership Team of the UMatter initiative
• Administration and oversight of the UMatter social media accounts
• May oversee time collection and payroll for Engagement Specialists.

Engages in internal and external consultations and collaboration with colleagues in HPPS, UHS, and around campus to develop, deliver, and assess prevention and early intervention strategies to target risk factors and mitigate the effects of illness and injury on our community members. This duty includes:

• Providing consultations through the TigerWell Grant Program working closely with the Senior Health Promotion Manager
• Participating on many UHS and University committees.

Performs other health promotion and administrative duties as assigned. These duties include:

• Developing and implementing health promotion programs in coordination with other HPPS staff using health behavior theory and an ecological framework. These topics may include high risk drinking, stress and its consequences, hazing, sexual health, mental health stigma, physical activity, nutrition, and sleep.
• May assume some responsibilities related to health communications and the UHS and UMatter websites.

Essential Qualifications

• Master's or advanced degree in public health, health promotion, or related field required.
• Certification eligible (CHES or CPH).
• At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified for the position. (Experience can substitute for education; education can substitute for experience where relevant and appropriate).
• Requires evening and weekend work (Labor Day weekend is a key part of Orientation inclusive of PHA training at Princeton).
• Strong knowledge of health promotion and health behavior change theories and ecological framework.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and create rapport with high-achieving undergraduate students or other volunteers.
• Ability to think critically and apply social justice and inclusion perspectives to the work of HPPS and UHS.
• Excellent computer skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, social media creation (e.g., Canva, Photoshop) and SPSS, and willing to learn new programs.
• Demonstrated high-level communication skills that contribute to effective collaboration with staff, faculty and students.
• Demonstrated skills in social marketing and health communication strategies.
• Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
