NYU Stern School of Business has a dynamic and well-recognized course of study focused on an undergraduate Sustainable Business concentration. These courses are primarily designed and delivered within the Business and Society department. We are currently recruiting an adjunct faculty member to teach a new sustainable supply chain course for undergraduates.

Teaching will be in-person twice a week for the duration of the Fall Term (September to mid-December 2023.) with the potential to continue into other academic terms as well. Each class session is 75 minutes, and the course enrollment is capped at 36 students.

Course Description

This course is an introductory course to sustainable supply chain management that provides students who have no previous knowledge with a basic understanding of the role supply chains play in generating environmental and social risk as well as opportunity.  The instructor will introduce students to the basics of how supply chains work and illustrate how much business impact is in supply chains - -ranging from greenhouse gas emissions, to water and biodiversity impact, to worker well-being and pay.   The students will be introduced through cases and studies to the challenges inherent in poorly managed supply chains, the financial and societal benefits of sustainable supply chain management, best in class approaches, and new technologies that can assist, as well as develop the skills to embed sustainability into supply chain management.

Teaching and Learning Expectations

Instructors, with in some instances the assistance of teaching assistants, are expected to participate in the drafting, grading and administration of a variety of assignments throughout the course, including weekly homework, short paper assignments, debates and exams.

Each class session may include a variety of activities, including discussion, writing, debates, and other participatory exercises. These activities are designed to promote a reflective dialogue about course themes, and the instructor?s teaching style should be highly interactive.

The instructor is also responsible for:

• Reviewing course material and generally adhering to a common syllabus
• Creating a classroom environment where students feel comfortable participating and learning
• Providing extra support to students through office hours, when requested
• Keeping up-to-date with advancements in the field and integrating new knowledge into lessons

Wage Transparency: 

In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the contact hour rate for this position is in the range of $350-$400. This rate is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 7902.

• MBA or other advanced degree
• At least 5 years of experience working in sustainable supply chains
• Demonstrated interest in teaching; successful teaching experience a plus
• Excellent interpersonal, observational, and communication skills
• Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills
