Position Description

The University of Washington Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine and Seattle Children's Hospital have an outstanding opportunity for a full-time pediatric orthopaedic surgeon to specialize with a focus on pediatric sports medicine. This position includes an academic appointment in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine at the University of Washington. Appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor rank (without tenure (WOT) due to funding). The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated state funds.

The current sports program at Seattle Children's Hospital includes 2 surgeons, 7 non-operative sports physicians, 3 dedicated sports APP, 6 in-clinic athletic trainers, 26 athletic trainers staffing local high schools and dedicated sports research staff. This new recruit will work with the current team to further develop the clinical, programmatic and academic vision for the sports program, which has been designated a growth area for Seattle Children's Hospital.

Other responsibilities will include resident and fellow education, medical student teaching, and the development of a busy clinical practice. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to develop a robust program in clinical, education methodologies or basic science research.

Salary

Overall compensation is a combination of base salary plus other compensation. The base salary range for this position is $30,834- 34,167 per month ($370,008-410,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This salary is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by CUMG practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other Compensation
Other compensation associated with this position may include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) and Semi-Annual Additional Compensation (SAAC) through the CUMG practice plan.

This position has a flexible start date in summer or fall of 2025. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11-months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent), be board certified in orthopaedic surgery and have completed a pediatric fellowship (or foreign equivalent) and must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington. A demonstrated record of professionalism, academic accomplishments, and excellent clinical skills encompassing a broad spectrum of pediatric sports medicine surgery is a prerequisite. These criteria will be assessed through references and letters of recommendation. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
