POSITION SUMMARY                                                                     

The Director of Campus Ministry is a senior leadership position in the Division of Mission Integration charged with the strategic leadership of the Office of Campus Ministry in support of the strategic plan of the Division. Reporting to the Vice President for Mission Integration, the Director will develop creative and innovative directions for the Office of Campus Ministry to meet the rapidly evolving context of the religious and spiritual life at Le Moyne as a Jesuit, Catholic College with a multi-faith student body. The Director of Campus Ministry will help shape the work of the Division through partnerships with units across the College to engage staff and students in the faith and spiritual life of the campus.

Specifically, the Director will provide leadership and direction for all aspects of the Le Moyne College Office of Campus Ministry, including experience and grounding in Ignatian Spirituality and Spiritual Direction, Catholic liturgy (with a strong emphasis on student participation and development in liturgy), and faith formation, in service of Le Moyne’s Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity. The Director will lead the Office to foster the religious, spiritual, and liturgical life of the entire campus community, with particular focus on students. This role oversees and collaborates with a team of four full-time campus ministers, supported by an administrative assistant, and a number of student interns, to ensure effective pastoral outreach to the whole College community. Programs for which the Director provides leadership and oversight include worship, retreats, residential ministry, justice education, prayer services, sacramental preparation and education, ecumenical and interfaith events, and faith formation.

The Director will have a public, pastoral presence at many Catholic liturgies and vigils on campus. Under the direction of the Vice President for Mission Integration, this person also serves as a liaison to the Jesuit Community of Le Moyne College, the Division, and the Office of Campus Ministry for liturgies and College events at the Panasci Family Chapel, coordinating where appropriate with other Division staff members.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job duties specific to this position:

• Establishes and promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the Office of Campus Ministry in order to align with and advance the Division's Strategic Plan, in collaboration with the Vice President for Mission Integration.

• Oversees implementation of the organizational plan of the Office of Campus Ministry in line with Division priorities.

• Provides for the effective oversight of day-to-day operations of Campus Ministry in support of Division policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Vice President for Mission Integration.

• Ensures successful liturgical, educational, and ministerial services to the Le Moyne Community with a particular attention paid to increased participation of students in Campus Ministry liturgies, retreats, and other events.

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a range of key partners at the College and in surrounding communities.

• Represents Campus Ministry in activities both on and off campus.

• Establishes and promotes the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the Office of Campus Ministry in order to align with and advance the Division's Strategic Plan, in collaboration with the Vice President for Mission Integration.

  • Leads the development of Campus Ministry's contributions to the Division's Strategic Plan, as established and revised periodically.

  • Provides transparent, collaborative and visible leadership for the formulation of a dynamic vision for Campus Ministry.

  • Develops and monitors appropriate metrics for measuring success of the office’s programmatic offerings- especially with regards to liturgical development and student leadership and training in liturgical matters.

  • Supports implementation of periodic review of Campus Ministry programs and their effectiveness.

  • Supports implementation of priorities to guide the use of Campus Ministry's resources.

  • Promotes the advancement of Campus Ministry's mission and goals within College structures.

  • Ensures development and implementation of the liturgical priorities of the Division and the College, supporting the Director of Liturgy and Music, through working collaboratively with the staff of the Panasci Family Chapel and the members of the Jesuit Community.

  • Contributes effectively to deeper understanding of Ignatian Spirituality, contemporary Catholic faith and the Jesuit educational tradition throughout the campus community.

  • Supports the fundraising activities of the Division with respect to programming and strategic priorities within Campus Ministry (help with funeral planning and extra-liturgical affairs).

• Oversees implementation of the organizational plan of the Office of Campus Ministry in line with Division priorities.

  • Supports assessment of organizational structure in light of best practices for campus ministry in higher education.

  • Develops and promotes updated structures and practices according to professional standards in the field.

  • Develops and executes a communications plan for Campus Ministry programming that also supports and aligns with the initiatives of the Division.

  • Supports ongoing evaluation of Campus Ministry program effectiveness on the basis of set metrics, and appropriate responses to assessed outcomes.

  • Ensures appropriate leadership development of team members.

• Provides for the effective oversight of day-to-day operations of Campus Ministry in support of Division policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Vice President for Mission Integration.

  • Oversees the management and development of Campus Ministry's programs.

  • Sets goals for direct reports, evaluates their performance, promotes or terminates them when appropriate within college guidelines, and carries out policy on merit increases.

  • Ensures execution of departmental administration, staffing, and policies.

  • Supports development and execution of annual operating budget processes across program areas, in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President of the Division.

  • Oversees the budgeting priorities and spending in Campus Ministry, in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President of the Division.

  • Offers support and guidance to staff members regarding programs, projects, and events, including liturgies, retreats, and justice-related offerings.

• Ensures successful liturgical, educational, and ministerial services to students, faculty, and staff.

  • Attends and/or presides at liturgies on a regular basis in a professional capacity as a senior leader at Le Moyne.

  • Provides for a robust sacramental and worship life on campus with a special emphasis on student development in liturgical ministries (music, reading, altar serving, liturgical art and environment etc.)

  • Provides sufficient opportunities for faith formation for all campus constituencies, with a particular but not exclusive focus on the Catholic tradition.

  • Mentors staff members in support of their areas of responsibility.

  • Promotes the growth of the ecumenical and interfaith dimensions of campus life, with attention to the plurality of religions or personal stances at Le Moyne College.

  • Serves on ministry teams for events or offers pastoral care to all members of the Le Moyne community with a particular emphasis on student care in collaboration with other student-facing units.

  • Ensures pastoral care in crisis situations (death of student, parent, etc.), including coordination of campus messaging, vigils, and family outreach, in collaboration with other units on campus.

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a range of key partners at the college and in surrounding communities.

  • Collaborates with the Jesuit Community (rector, individual members, and appropriate sub-groups) to promote effective presence of Jesuits and their active participation in appropriate ministries.

  • Participates in student care and development through membership on appropriate college committees.

  • Networks regularly with fellow administrators and colleagues.

• Represents Campus Ministry in activities both on and off campus.

  • Ensures representation of the Office of Campus Ministry, either in person or through the appropriate delegate, at Welcome Weekend, Commencement, Parent Weekends, Admission and Orientation programming, and similar ceremonial and community events.

  • Determines appropriate venues on and off campus for Campus Ministry's presence.

• Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.

• Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.

• Maintains contact with constituents and solicits feedback for improved services.

• Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools, planned training, and performance initiatives.

• Researches and develops resources that create timely, effective, and efficient workflow.

• Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals.

• Ensures completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of all operational functions.

• Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.

• Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS  

• Master of Divinity degree, or comparable master's degree in religious studies or theology with pastoral preparation, required.

• Years of Experience;10-12 years of related professional experience required or equivalent combination of experience and education.

• 5-8+ years of relevant ministerial experience.

• 5-8+ years of experience in program administration, leading/supervising groups and individuals in managerial contexts, with budget and assessment oversight.

• Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with the Roman Catholic faith demonstrating candidate's well- integrated Christian faith and ability to help students envision and practice a vibrant faith that does justice.

• Knowledge of Ignatian Spirituality, Discernment, and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola; direct experience with Ignatian spirituality strongly preferred.

• Close familiarity with the tradition of Jesuit education preferred.

• Understanding of spiritual/religious development stages for contemporary young adults and the capacity to implement programs to meet these spiritual developmental aspirations.

• Familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgies and rites.

• Ability to think synthetically and strategically to establish long term priorities.

• Strong organizational skills, with experience in strategic planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs

• Demonstrated competence in multicultural, ecumenical, and interfaith issues.

• Excellent communication skills in multiple settings, audiences, and contexts.

• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and balance competing priorities for excellent outcomes.
