Title of Position:   Staff Accountant, Business Office  

Function of Position:

Responsible to the Budget & Accounts Payable Manager for reviewing accounts payable batches, administering college purchasing card program, preparing and reviewing general ledger account reconciliations and journal entries, assisting with annual financial statement preparation and tax reporting, and supervising a student worker.  This is a full-time, twelve-month position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review accounts payable batches prepared by Accounting Assistant for correct data entry, account usage, and authorized approvals according to college policy; post accounts payable batches. Process payments through the college’s third-party payment processor. Back up Accounting Assistant. – 20%
• Administer the purchasing card program including implementation of a new card program. – 20%
• Hire, train, and supervise one student worker to assist with internal charges, expense transfers, bank reconciliations, other monthly transactions, and special projects. – 10%
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and follow up with departments to resolve reconciling items. Prepare annual audit workpapers for these accounts. Assist with the preparation of the audited financial statements including footnotes and schedules. – 10%
• Review internal charges and expense transfers for complete information and correct account usage, post transaction groups. – 5%
• Review bank reconciliations including journal entries and reconciling items; post transaction groups. – 5%
• Complete unclaimed property due diligence and annual reporting with the states. – 5%
• Prepare the annual federal 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC tax forms.  – 5%
• Assist with the preparation of the 990 and 990-T annual tax returns. – 5%
• Assist with the preparation of various surveys and reports requested by senior leadership team, faculty, staff, and outside agencies. – 5%
• Perform other related duties as assigned. – 10%

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance with three years of experience in accounts payable, auditing, tax and/or financial statement reporting; Microsoft Office proficiency including advanced Excel and database management; attention to detail and accuracy; ability to collaborate in a team environment; strong communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality standards; and strong commitment to customer service.
