Position Summary:

The person in this position will have a dual appointment in the Community Health Promotion lab and the lab of Adaptive Athletics at the University of Houston. Each appointment will require approximately 20 hours weekly for each project. In part this individual will assist in the day-to-day operations of a NIH-funded randomized controlled trial (R01HD114793-01) aimed at evaluating a health promotion program for families with toddlers. Participants will be recruited from the community and randomly assigned to one of three conditions (just want to make sure this is the words you want). Research staff will collect measures of body composition, a diet biomarker, parent-child interaction quality, diet and physical activity via parent report, physical measurement, and observation at three timepoints. This position is in-person with virtual options in extenuating circumstances.

The second position, funded by NIDILRR (G0509512) will be focused on managing resource advocates and communicating with mentors who will be providing support to Latino athletes with disabilities. The purpose of this project is to improve health and economic outcomes for marginalized individuals through access to sport and community resources. This will require weekly check-ins with parties and the identification of programmatic adjustments that need to be made, and the selected staff-person will need to demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills. Meetings will occur in person and virtually. Competitive salary will be offered.

Duties:

• Plans and organizes resources, paid staff, and volunteer student interns to accomplish goals of the study.
• Prepares procedure manuals for data collection, facilitator training, intervention delivery and monitoring, and observational behavioral coding.
• Maintains accurate and timely records of all project-related activities.
• Coordinates data collection, recruitment, intervention events, and meetings among staff and student volunteers.
• Coordinates and confirms meetings with athletes with disabilities, resource advocates, and their mentors.
• Provide direct support to resource advocates as needed.
• Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations and codes.
• Performs other study related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required.
• At least one year of research experience is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of health promotion research and methods.
• Experience working with children.
• Resource management skills, including supervising and coordinating teams.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities and people in marginalized communities.
• A basic level of Spanish language proficiency.
