Position Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP), at the University of Washington, invites applications for a pathologist at the rank of Assistant Professor on the Clinical Practice track. This full-time (1.0FTE) faculty position will be in the Anatomic Pathology Breast and Gynecologic Divisions at the University of Washington Medical Center and includes administrative duties as an Associate Director in the Gynecologic Division. The estimated start date is February 1, 2025, although the specific start date is negotiable.

The clinical duties of this position will mainly focus on surgical pathology, with clinical service responsibility mainly on the Gynecologic Pathology service, and with an allotment also devoted to the Breast Pathology service. This individual will be expected to demonstrate clinical excellence as evaluated by peers, interact and foster relationships with clinicians, and participate in interdisciplinary conferences associated with the applicable subspecialty services. Additional responsibilities will include the teaching of medical students, post-sophomore fellows, residents, and fellows among other learners.

The Clinical Practice track encompasses faculty whose primary focus is on the clinical and educational mission of the Department. Faculty in this track spend the majority of their time in clinical activities with significant interaction with learners (students, post-docs, residents, fellows) as part of their clinical work, and they may also have significant administrative and leadership roles in the Department. Faculty on the clinical practice track hold multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Clinical Practice track appointments are not eligible for tenure. The initial period for the Professor of Clinical Practice appointment will be 3 years. Multi-year renewal of the faculty appointment is contingent upon satisfactory performance, the needs of the department, availability of resources, and in accordance with university policy and procedure governing reappointment. This position is full time and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of February 1, 2025, but is flexible.

The base salary range for this position will be: $19,920 to $24,287 per month ($239,048 to $291,451 annually); commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

The candidate is expected to have expertise and faculty-level experience in Gynecologic and Breast Pathology as well as general surgical pathology, and have faculty-level experience in teaching students, residents and fellows in these disciplines. Candidates must have an M.D., D.O., or foreign equivalent, and should be Board eligible or certified in Anatomic Pathology by date of appointment. Must qualify for a license to practice medicine in Washington state. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
