Tiffany & Co. (TCO) Program Overview

RISD Continuing Education (CE) serves as an educational provider and partner for Tiffany & Co. (TCO). TCO works with both newly hired apprentices and recently hired TCO employees to train them on key aspects of the jewelry making and design process. The goal of this program is to enhance and broaden the level of training employees and apprentices receive so that they can deepen their skills while strengthening the overall TCO talent pool. RISD CE, in partnership with the school's renowned Jewelry & Metalsmithing department, serves as the educational partner that provides training around specific foundational and industry standards. In addition to other course teaching and planning that is done asynchronously, this course has a combination of live components that include class time, small group meetings, and office hours. These live components run 16 hours per week for 3 weeks (48 hours total). Each week the course includes 4 days of these live components (four - 4 hour live blocks of time). Specifics are subject to change. This course is taught over zoom. Our students are diverse, coming from a wide range of geographic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.

Job Description

RISD CE seeks an art educator whose specialty is Jewelry & Metalsmithing with an expertise utilizing CAD and Rhino for productivity. This course will run in the Fall of 2024 during October. We welcome teaching artists of all backgrounds with ongoing studio practices and demonstrated achievements of high caliber results in their students' work.

RISD CE instructors for TCO are passionate about art and design and can nurture the interest of their students. They are approachable but maintain high expectations and are invested in their students' success. They vary their approach using lectures, demonstrations, and more. They are culturally responsive and lead an inclusive learning environment. We are particularly interested in candidates whose pedagogical approach and personal studio practice can resonate with a student body.

This TCO course focuses on core competencies a student will need to enhance their ability to digitally fabricate objects in the jewelry industry. Core components of this course include but are not limited to CAD Fundamentals, Rhino Fundamentals, basic 3D digital modeling for CNC machining, 3D printing, 3D mold making, and laser cutting (rendering & vector). As our students have a variety of skill levels and experience, successful candidates will be able to be responsive to students with a wide range of backgrounds.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Bachelor's degree

• Teaching experience in a collegiate and/or professional practice setting

• Experience developing courses that challenge students creatively and intellectually while maintaining age-appropriate pedagogy

• Demonstrated ability to generate high caliber student work

• Ability to keep students engaged throughout long studio courses

• Experience leading classes and critiques that model constructive, inclusive discussions in an environment of diverse learners

• Ability to tailor instruction to meet the needs students with a wide range of pre-existing skills

• Ongoing professional creative practice

• Expertise in fundamentals of CAD

• Expertise in fundamentals of Rhino

• Basic understanding of 3D digital modeling, printing, and mold making

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Proficiency with learning management systems such as Canvas

• Proficiency with online collaborative tools such as Google Suite

• Experience developing inclusive curriculum that centers artists of historically underrepresented backgrounds

• Interest in collaborative curriculum planning

• Master of Fine Arts or equivalent in established professional practice in area of study

Work Schedule

This course will run through the Fall term in October (classes and live meetings held four times per week)
