Associate Director of Universal Digital Library Project
The Universal Digital Library Project (UDL) at Carnegie Mellon University was founded in 2000 The mission was to create an online digital library which will foster creativity and free access to all human knowledge with a free-to-read, searchable collection of one million books, available to everyone over the Internet. The initial goal of 1 million books was achieved in 2007 with the support from multiple universities in India, China, Egypt, Australia and the FAO of the United Nations. The NSF, the government of India and the Internet Archive were key financial supporters of the project.
