The Division of Student Affairs is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's SUNY Oneonta experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Division of Student Affairs aims to help students navigate their time at SUNY Oneonta, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation.

The Office of Student Care (OSC) is within the Division of Student Affairs and reports to the Associate Vice President of Students Affairs, Dean of Students at SUNY Oneonta. The Student Care Counselor for Basic Needs and Crisis is a key contributor responsible for collaborating with students who may have personal, emotional, medical, and/or other concerns. The Student Care Counselor assists students with exploring resources within SUNY Oneonta and/or the community to facilitate connections to the most appropriate support. Reporting directly to the Associate Director, the Student Care Counselor is an 11-month position that requires regular contact with students, campus partner staff, and the community. This position involves alternative hours and may require some nights and weekends.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Manage a caseload of students with diverse challenges (mental health, physical health, psycho-social adjustment, financial, familial, etc.) to provide services and conduct student needs assessments.
• Administer the State Emergency Fund
• Consult on acute cases with the Associate Director as needed.
• Build and maintain relationships with community providers and connect students with on- and off-campus support services.
• Serve as the point of contact for students of concern.
• Serve as a member of the Behavioral Assessment Team and the Coordination, Assessment, Response, and Education (CARE) Team.
• Plan, organize, and implement campus wide educational programs and participate in outreach activities.
• Evaluate current resources and develop and implement a two-year plan to enhance support for under-resourced students, addressing service gaps.
• Track, assess, and report data for program development.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree is necessary.
• Three years of related experience in student support, crisis intervention, or behavioral intervention.
• Demonstrated knowledge of case management, intake/assessment, and counseling techniques.
• Proven ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred:

• A master's degree in social work, counseling, or related mental health field is preferred.
• Possession of, or eligibility to obtain, an appropriate license (i.e., LMSW, LCSW, NCC, LPC, LMFT) or case management certification is preferred.
• Record of success in problem-solving complex issues while functioning as an independent decision-maker.
• Experience working with students in crisis and creating behavioral intervention plans and/or care coordination is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of principles and procedures involved in risk assessment.
