Position Overview: The NYU Department of Environmental Studies is seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to investigate questions related to the terrestrial carbon cycle, climate extremes, and environmental justice. This opportunity provides a transition to career independence through developing critical research skills, publishing research findings, presenting in academic conferences, and incorporating an individual development plan in support of career goals identified by the candidates and faculty mentors.

Key Research Themes:

• Investigating the complexities of global methane dynamics by integrating observational data and atmospheric inverse models
• Ecological monitoring and forecasting of extreme climate events such as drought, heatwave, wildfire, flood
• Evaluating the disproportionate impact of urban heat extremes and equitable adaptation strategies

The Postdoctoral Associate's primary responsibilities will consist of developing specific research questions and analytical approaches with Dr. Yin under the broad themes listed above and carrying out the research vision through data analysis, theoretical explorations, quantitative modeling, and publication.

The successful candidate will be based at NYU's Washington Square campus in the heart of vibrant New York City. The Department of Environmental Studies at NYU College of Arts and Science is made up of interdisciplinary scholars dedicated to tackling the pressing environmental challenges of our time. The appointment will provide ample opportunity to engage with colleagues within and outside NYU, including collaboration with researchers at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, and California Institute of Technology supported by NASA grants.

The initial appointment is one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years. In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $62,500-$75,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Required qualification: Ph.D. in ecology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

Preferred qualification: Proficiency in remote sensing, climate and land surface model, chemical transport models, regional weather forecast model
