Operations Director, Clinical Services/Laboratory Medicine:
- Planning: Working closely with the Executive Director and Chief, identifies department operational needs, defines concrete goals, and frames subsequent plan for achieving goals. Engages and secures support from stakeholders across all areas of the laboratory and hospital to lead the project planning, solution design and implementation of new and/or improved operational initiatives.
- Execution: Provides expertise and direction to managers and staff in the ongoing operation and general administration of various laboratory sections for the execution of improvements, service and quality enhancements. Designs and memorializes operations workflows. Leads the training and communications supporting operational change management. Provides operational expertise in resolving complex problems related to general laboratory functions.
- Team Management: Directly or through first level managers/supervisors, selects and develops staff, schedules and delegates work assignments, defines expectations and manages performance of staff. Develops infrastructure to optimize employee performance within/across teams to encompass: facilitating communication of shared operational goals and standards; identifying training needs and leading their implementation; formalizing feedback across teams; etc. Coaches/Mentors managers/supervisors for the long term success of their teams.
- Compliance and Quality Programs: Monitors and maintains laboratory sections compliance with accreditation, state and federal regulatory agencies, and hospital standards and guidelines for all laboratory operations. Develops procedures and/or follows established procedures for quality control and assurance, and assures continual compliance
- Evaluation and Reporting: Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness, efficiency, quality, etc. of impacted operations through ongoing informal interaction with staff, formalized feedback, data analysis, etc. Provides periodic updates on projects, including implementing new business or process improvement initiatives, status of current implementation efforts and supporting metrics and analyses.
- Contracts/Agreements: Participates in various contract review/assessments with external vendors for a range of services or commitments. Participates as requested in investigating, negotiating, implementing and maintaining agreements with other clinical entities including designing financial arrangements and reviewing and editing contracts
- Budgets: With Executive Director, develops, plans and monitors department operating and capital budget, collaborating with Chief and BCH leadership. Participates as requested in overseeing expense (equipment, supplies, telephones, staffing, etc.) management issues; performs comparative analyses. Develops and implements strategies for cost containment.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related science or healthcare management discipline required
- Master's Degree in a related science or healthcare management discipline preferred.
- 8 years' of progressive medical laboratory management experience.
- ASCP Laboratory certification, general or subspecialty
