Leadership in Mathematics Education: Field work/Advisement: 

The advisement process is central to all Bank Street College Graduate School programs.  Through the advisement process, the advisor plays an important role in enabling students to integrate theory and practice, and supports the development of each student’s proficiency as an educational leader.

Advisors work closely with each student, becoming familiar with the student’s work in the field through 8 site visits spread out through the 16-month program. In addition, there are 8 individual conferences scheduled with students as needed. The advisor also meets for two hours twice a month during the Fall, Spring, and Summer I semesters, and once a week during the Summer II semesters. 

The advisor also provides academic guidance to his or her advisees and participates in program, department and divisional meetings.

Schedule:

This appointment will start when the students begin the program at Bank Street in the Summer II 2023 term (6/26/23).  The program is 16 months and is completely online. The advisor is also expected to engage in the asynchronous orientation that starts two weeks before the Summer II term begins. 

Responsibilities as an advisor:

• Eight virtual site visits spread out through the 16 months of the program and conduct three-way meetings with advisee and site supervisor, as applicable;
• Convene and facilitate eight one-to-one meetings with each advisee as needed throughout the 16 months;
• Lead and facilitate bi-monthly conference group meetings during two Fall, one Spring, and one Summer I semesters, and weekly conference group meetings during the two Summer II semesters;
• Provide academic guidance in accordance with degree requirements and college policy;
• Participate in program, department and divisional meetings.

Qualifications:

• Masters degree required; Doctorate preferred

• Minimum of 5 years experience as a teacher
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a school leader/ staff developer
• Successful previous experience with college/graduate school teaching
• Experience with child-centered education
