Job Description:

Full-time visiting assistant professor to teach a range of courses in game design and development, and contribute to the continuing cultivation of the Game Design major. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of game design & development, experience with relevant tools & techniques, and be engaged with making games or interactive media.

Depending on candidate skills & interests, courses taught may include 3D Game Development, History of Interactive Media & Games, Game Design Workshop, Game Studies Seminar, Elements of Game Design, Intermediate Game Art, Serious Games, Game Studio, or other relevant classes.

We are the first Game Design program in a public university in New England, a strong professional program in a liberal arts institution. Our faculty are game and interactive developers, artists, and scholars, who teach, publish, and participate with our students in conferences, professional meetups, game jams, and study abroad programs. Our curriculum provides a broad-based core foundation in game design focusing on collaborative development. Our game labs are outfitted with industry standard hardware and software including VR and motion capture facilities, our Game Lounge keeps a broad library of digital and analog games for student research, and our Game Studio capstone is housed in a beautifully renovated space above a 1920's downtown theater.

Candidate may also have experience in related fields, such as software development, mobile, VR/AR, game art, UI/UX, tabletop games, serious games, game history, game studies, women in games, queer games, or other areas of art, culture & technology.

Professional experience in the game industry or related field is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

1. Teach 24 credits per year in game design, plus preparation for classroom instruction; supervise independent studies and internships.

2. Provide student assistance including academic advising.

3. Participate in curriculum review and development, program reviews, student outcomes assessment, scheduled orientation and registration programs.

4. Attend university functions, including commencement, convocation, department & committee meetings.

5. Continuing scholarship and professional activities, which may include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in professional organizations and societies, public service and contributions to the professional growth and development of the university community.

2. Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching.

3. Evidence of creative, scholarly, teaching, and/or professional activity.

4. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.

Salary commensurate with qualifications, experience and in accordance with the MSCA Bargaining Agreement There are opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate and graduate courses.

Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
