Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Development, Arts & Sciences, the Associate Director serves as a resource for, and a collaborative thought partner to, gift officers, school-based marketing and annual fund teams, as well as academic administrators and faculty. Through planning and executing written communications, events and other programming, this new position will play an instrumental role in engaging alumni and donors, and in promoting and recognizing philanthropic support to Arts & Sciences departments, centers, and units (A&S). The Associate Director will have an opportunity to partner widely with colleagues across the Arts & Sciences and the Office of Alumni and Development (OAD).

Responsibilities

Development Programs:

• Overseeing high-level reporting to existing A&S donors, working with confidential data, and liaising directly with academic deans, faculty, and administrators.
• Managing the monthly gift acknowledgment process, including running confidential reports, copyediting, and communicating with the Office of the Executive Vice President of Arts and Sciences.
• Managing all aspects of A&S??? participation in Columbia Giving Day (CGD), an annual University-wide online giving event, including setting and tracking performance against revenue goals, developing email solicitations and web content, as well as building resources for department, center, and institute administrators to expand CGD???s reach.
• With the Senior Associate Director, planning, executing and managing cultivation, engagement and stewardship events, including identifying opportunities for new intellectual programming for an alumni audience, and managing all event logistics for A&S Development events.
• Project managing complex and multi-donor gifts, including setting financial goals and timelines, developing cases for support, identifying prospects, and writing gift agreements.
• Proactively identifying new fundraising opportunities, developing strategies from start to completion, and liaising with multiple stakeholders to ensure goals are realized and gift agreements meet A&S guidelines.
• Monitoring and tracking recurring gifts, working with gift officers across OAD in ensuring leadership and major gifts are renewed wherever possible.
• Executing reports involving confidential information.
• Other special projects as assigned.

Communications:

• With the Senior Associate Director, developing and implementing a strategic communication plan that will advance engagement and fundraising goals for Arts & Sciences departments, centers and units, with special focus on internal communications.
• Remaining current with research and programming within the Arts and Sciences, including by liaising with faculty and academic administrators, to initiate and develop cultivation, solicitation and stewardship materials for use with A&S donors and prospects.
• Project managing the creation and deployment of select departmental newsletters, liaising directly with faculty, academic administrators and OAD partners, and developing strategies to enhance departmental alumni communications.
• Tracking performance to assess impact and inform future strategies.
• Acting as a resource for A&S departments, centers and institutes??? faculty and administrators with questions concerning alumni communications and web-based giving platforms, collaborating with internal partners as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor???s degree is required, as well as a minimum three (3) years of related experience. Working on evenings and weekends may be required from time to time.

The candidate will have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail. Their organizational skills and ability to drive activity for multiple projects/groups, and work effectively in a team environment with diverse populations and challenging client groups is a point of personal pride. The incumbent will possess the ability to work with shifting priorities, negotiate issues, resolve problems and have strong influencing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with working with donors, creating cultivation and engagement opportunities in creative ways is preferred, as is experience and skills in writing and preparing institutional materials.

Other Requirements

Subject to business needs, the Office of Alumni and Development supports a hybrid work arrangement for this position. Options will be discussed during the interview process.
