Intro:  A Researcher 1 is wanted to work with a basic science/translational research group that is focused on studying correlative cellular and molecular biomarkers of advanced forms of cancer.  The primary responsibilities include working with the PI, supervisor, and other members of a collaborative translational research team to carry out bench-based experiments, and compile and assist in analyzing results. The position involves working with a variety of experimental techniques that incorporate clinically-relevant in vitro and in vivo human and mouse cancer models, including samples from patients enrolled in clinical trials, for completion of correlative studies. The major focus of our work is to evaluate novel cancer treatment approaches that combine inhibitors of cancer signaling and cell-based immunotherapy. Experience with sterile cell culture techniques, multiparameter flow cytometry, Western blotting, molecular cloning, genetic engineering, and mouse models are preferred. Dependability, integrity, and strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. This position involves working closely with a large translational research group alongside physician scientists, basic scientist faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduate students, and other lab staff.

This position will work in the lab of Dr. Emil Lou under direct supervision of senior research scientists.  Specific responsibilities and duties will include conducting research experiments under supervision and as designed by the PI and/or senior research scientist team, and rely on the ability to work independently and reliably. This position will assist with general laboratory duties and preparation of detailed lab notebooks, summary reports, and graphs as well as provide experimental errors and statistics on these data. Maintain study databases and accurate data entry are part of the required responsibilities. Attending meetings with supervisor and lab meetings as scheduled and otherwise on request will be required.

Required Qualifications:
1. A bachelor's degree in the biologic sciences OR a combination of education and experience of at least four years with coursework related to molecular & cellular biology, cancer biology, and genetics.
2. Previous experience working in a laboratory setting.
3. Knowledge of biology terms, biochemistry, physiology, biophysics, epidemiology, statistics
4. Strong writing and statistical skills
5. Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
6. Ability to follow detailed protocols and standard operating procedures.
7. Willingness to learn and develop new techniques and approaches.
8. Excellent organization skills and strong record keeping abilities.
9. Strong interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
10. Above average computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and analysis of microscopy images using Fiji and/or Image J.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in research related to the tumor microenvironment and/or tumor immunology.
2. Experience with efficient handling and processing patient-derived or animal-derived biological samples, and ability to perform experiments encompassing cell culture, and biologic specimens derived from human patients (e.g. tumor tissue and blood, etc.).
3. Experience in inverted and/or confocal microscopy and cellular and molecular biology data analysis.
4. Previous experience performing some or all of the following:
- in vitro sterile cell culture
- multiparameter flow cytometry, including analysis
- plasmid and viral-based genetic engineering, isolation of protein/DNA/RNA, immunoblotting, PCR, molecular cloning
5. Demonstrated experience conducting complex multi-step cell and molecular biology experiments
6. Proficient in data analysis and organization of data using Prism Graph Pad
