POSITION OVERVIEW

Claremont Graduate University seeks a forward-thinking higher education administrator with a demonstrated record of achievement to serve as its Associate Dean of Students. This position directly reports to the Dean of Students to support students' success and well-being. The Dean of Students Office leads a number of functional operations, including the non-academic misconduct disciplinary processes, Title IX investigations, Clery compliance, disabilities services, student grievances, and complaints, campus behavior intervention and support, and student crisis response. The Dean of Students Office works closely with the Office of Student Life, Diversity and Leadership and collaboratively with units across campus, the consortium, and community agencies to promote a safe and inclusive learning community.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Serves as the student conduct officer, adjudicating cases in the best interest of the students and the University. Serves as Deputy Title IX Coordinator and performs investigations and/or hearing officer as needed. This includes investigating reports, writing all reports, and creating disciplinary hearing communications. The Associate Dean will participate in regular meetings and collaborate closely with other Claremont College Title IX Coordinators, Case Managers, and Disability Services Coordinators and participate in relevant working groups and Clery-related committees.
• Maintain and update all student disciplinary and assistance records in Maxient and paper files
• Serves as the Disability Service Coordinator: organizes, manages, and provides support for students with disabilities, including academic accommodations, faculty consultation, student advising, and family engagement.
• Leads the Office of Disability Services by conducting intake interviews, reviewing disability documentation and history of accommodations, assessing current limitations of the disability, and in determining appropriate accommodations in accordance with applicable law and disability services documentation requirements.
• Provide ongoing consultation and technical assistance to faculty and staff to facilitate access, learning and other opportunities. Participating in the interactive process to resolve professor or student accommodation requests.
• Supervision of the Office of Student Life, Diversity, and Leadership, including the day-to-day operations of the office. Assist students with complex problems and concerns.
• Support retention efforts, including creating, developing, and implementing assessment tools that demonstrate the impact of the Dean of Students Office on student success and retention.
• Design, implement, and assess presentations and workshops for faculty and students regarding the functions of the Office of the Dean of Students (conduct and assistance). Oversight of the Dean of Students website and social media accounts.
• Serve as the Dean of Students Office liaison to various university areas (Housing, Health, Wellness and Counseling Services, Student Disability Resource Center, Registrar, Financial Aid, and all Academic Affairs offices). Serve on various university committees.
• Assess and/or improve business operations or implementation practices in the Dean of Student's Office or targeted university areas as assigned and/or discovered through business process mapping in the context of retention and student satisfaction.
• Analyze and interpret information, reports, and proposals to ensure accurate and complete information is available to the Dean of Students for decision-making. Anticipates issues and troubleshoots problems as they arise.
• Collaborate with University-wide leadership on developing, complying with, and revising student policies. Provides updates to the institutional handbook supporting the University's mission and goals. Support effective communication about the handbook and policies.
• Builds and maintains relationships with the university, consortium, and other stakeholders to improve service from the Dean of Students Office. Collaborates and communicates effectively across stakeholders.
• Supervise staff in the Office of Student Life, Diversity, and Leadership and provide additional support for the training and management of student workers and/or consultants for the Dean of Student's Office.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education, Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or related field, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and ability.
• Experience: Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in Higher Education administration, including supervisory experience. Candidates with experience in any of the following areas will receive priority: Judicial Affairs, Counseling, Title IX, Disability Services, general case management, Accessible Information Management (AIM), Maxient, and a history of experience working with diverse student populations.
• Preferred Skills and Abilities: Ability to plan and implement programs that support institutional goals; community building, human relations, and conflict resolution skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work both individually and as a part of a team; computer skills.
• The candidate should have a demonstrated knowledge of best practices as defined by the Association of Higher Education on Disability (AHEAD), the Commission of Rehabilitation Counseling, and the American Counseling Association. Extensive knowledge and understanding of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other pertinent federal and state laws that provide guidelines for compliance.

LICENSE: Must possess a valid California driver's license and meet CGU's authorized driver's requirements. ATIXA, TITLE IX CERTIFICATION

OTHER:

l. HOURS: The regular hours for this position are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department. This position is on-site with the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week with supervisor approval.

2. CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS: Full-time, benefits-based, exempt-level position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Three full-time staff members. Student workers where needed.
